Three projects developed by China Three Gorges Corporation have been recognized in the 2024鈥?026 National Quality Engineering Awards list released by the China Association of Construction Enterprise Management.
Among the honorees, the Three Gorges New Energy Jiangsu Rudong 800MW (H6, H10) Offshore Wind Farm Project received the National Quality Engineering Gold Award, while the Changyi Ocean Ranch and Three Gorges 300MW Offshore Wind Integration Pilot Demonstration Project and the Jiujiang Central Urban Area Water Environment System Comprehensive Treatment Phase I Project were granted National Quality Engineering Awards.
The National Quality Engineering Award was established in 1981 and stands as the earliest and most prestigious cross-industry, cross-discipline national quality prize in China's engineering construction sector, aimed at promoting the spirit of pursuing excellence and creating classic works, advancing the systematic, scientific, and economic management of engineering quality, and recognizing projects that feature superior design, refined quality, excellent management, strong returns, advanced technology, and energy efficiency.
The three selected projects represent landmark achievements of China Three Gorges Corporation in offshore wind development and the protection of the Yangtze River, signaling that the corporation's engineering quality, refined management, technological innovation, and comprehensive benefits in related fields rank among the nation's top tier, fully demonstrating its strength and responsibility as a central state-owned enterprise in serving energy transition and ecological civilization.
The Three Gorges New Energy Jiangsu Rudong 800MW (H6, H10) Offshore Wind Farm Project is located in the Huangshayang sea area of Rudong County, Jiangsu Province, with a total installed capacity of 800 megawatts. It achieved full-capacity grid connection in 2021, generating roughly 2.4 billion kilowatt-hours annually, enough to meet the clean electricity needs of about one million households for a year, saving approximately 740,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about two million tons each year. As Asia's first offshore wind project to transmit power using flexible DC technology, it overcame multiple core technical challenges including offshore converter station construction, offshore flexible DC transmission, converter station operational support, and fully steel composite cylindrical wind turbine foundations with integrated installation, driving the development and upgrading of new equipment, processes, and technologies while providing key support for the high-quality growth of China's offshore wind industry.
The Changyi Ocean Ranch and Three Gorges 300MW Offshore Wind Integration Pilot Demonstration Project is situated in the Laizhou Bay waters north of Changyi City, Weifang, Shandong Province. It innovatively explores deep integration between offshore wind power and ocean ranching by establishing aquaculture zones within 50 meters around turbine foundations, deploying spawning reefs and fish aggregation reefs to gather and propagate fish, offering favorable habitats and spawning grounds for fish, shellfish, and algae, advancing three-dimensional development above and below water, and creating a model of green energy plus a blue granary. The project simultaneously operates an offshore environmental observation and monitoring station to dynamically track the impact of construction on water flow, water quality, marine self-regulation capacity, and the reproduction of birds and marine life, assessing the effectiveness of ocean ranch improvements on ecological restoration and providing reliable evidence for exploring deep integration of a modern energy system with marine ecological protection and socioeconomic development.
The Jiujiang Central Urban Area Water Environment System Comprehensive Treatment Phase I Project is one of the first pilot projects under China Three Gorges Corporation's participation in protecting the Yangtze River. It coordinates upgrades to sewage treatment plants, new pipeline construction and repair, treatment of black and odorous water bodies, and ecological restoration, innovatively proposing the plant-network-river-lake-shore systematic treatment concept, pioneering trenchless repair technology for extra-large diameter and ultra-long-distance drainage pipelines, and comprehensively developing and applying smart and information technologies. Through comprehensive watershed treatment, it has transformed Jiujiang's central urban area into a vital ecological link between Mount Lu, the Yangtze River, and Poyang Lake, enhancing the city's overall service functions while leveraging natural landscapes of water systems and hills to create a beautiful and livable environment, offering replicable and promotable experience for water environment treatment in cities along the Yangtze.
Going forward, China Three Gorges Corporation will continue upholding its quality philosophy of prioritizing quality for a millennium-scale endeavor, further strengthening its commitment to premium projects, continuously improving engineering quality and operational management, vigorously advancing scientific and technological breakthroughs, and building more national-quality benchmark projects to solidify its development foundation, contributing greater Three Gorges strength to national strategies including safeguarding river stability, building an energy powerhouse, achieving a beautiful China, and strengthening the nation through science and technology.
