On the morning of September 9th, the third-phase project at CALB's Hefei base in Shuangdun Town, Changfeng County, officially commenced operations.
As a strategic move in the capacity expansion and upgrade of the Hefei base, this new facility is set to reinforce the city's advantages in the new energy industrial cluster, injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of the sector. The third phase is designed to provide 25 gigawatt-hours of annual capacity, leveraging a new generation of intelligent and green manufacturing processes. It covers dual tracks—automotive and energy storage—adding high-end power battery and energy storage battery production lines, while incorporating advanced lithium battery quality inspection systems and other state-of-the-art equipment.
With this phase now in production, the overall scale of the Hefei base will be significantly expanded, enhancing its ability to supply a wider variety of products and elevating the standards of smart manufacturing and quality control.
The construction timeline has been exceptionally swift. The project was signed in September 2025, with construction beginning in October of the same year, and it reached full operational status in September 2026. The gap between the agreement and breaking ground was just one month, while the entire construction-to-production cycle took only 11 months. Notably, both the first and second phases of the base also achieved the milestone of first-line production within 11 months of breaking ground, consistently setting records for the pace of capacity deployment in the industry.
Meanwhile, the fourth phase, located nearby, is advancing efficiently. It was signed in December of last year and encompasses both an energy storage battery project and a power battery pack project. Construction on the energy storage segment started in January of this year, with plans to complete and commission it by the end of this year. The power battery pack production line in Wushan, built in just 87 days, successfully began operations this past March.
Since establishing its presence in Hefei in 2021, CALB, a global leader in new energy technology, has been intensifying its focus on the region. With the first two phases running at full capacity, the official commissioning of the third phase, rapid progress on the fourth, and the recent signing of a CALB research institute in Hefei, the company's total planned capacity in the city has reached 100 gigawatt-hours. This expansion is also extending the company's footprint from manufacturing into research and development innovation.
"Hefei's well-developed industrial ecosystem and excellent business environment, coupled with the proactive and precise support from government departments at all levels, have provided efficient backing for the smooth implementation of the third phase," said a representative from CALB Technology (Hefei) Co., Ltd. "It's reassuring and seamless to operate here, which is our core reason for continuously scaling up investment in the city." The representative added that the company will seize opportunities in the new energy market to accelerate full-capacity operations at the third phase, steadily push forward with subsequent projects, and strengthen technological innovation to position the Hefei base as the group's core smart manufacturing hub, contributing greater strength to the growth of Hefei's new energy industry cluster.
