New Committee for Industry-Research Innovation in Chinese Information Technology Established, Led by Legend Holdings and Chinese Academy of Sciences

A new committee dedicated to fostering innovation between industry and research in the field of Chinese information technology has been established. The China Chinese Information Processing Society Industry-University-Research Innovation Ecosystem Working Committee was launched with the involvement of LEGENDHOLDING and the Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, among other founding bodies.

The committee's primary mission is to enhance the transformation of academic achievements into industrial applications within the Chinese information sector by promoting a collaborative model between industry and scientific research. Yu Hao, CEO of LEGENDHOLDING, has been appointed as the inaugural director of the committee.

Yu Hao noted that China is currently at the convergence of a "super-cycle for emerging and future industries" and a "super-cycle for intelligent technology." He pointed out the rapid evolution of AI from large language models towards agents, embodied intelligence, and world models. Concurrently, national policies encourage "patient capital" to invest early in small, hard-tech ventures, while societal trends like AI democratization are fostering new economic units such as "one-person companies." At this juncture, Yu emphasized the need for "collaborative pre-innovation," where industry brings real-world problems to researchers, rather than waiting for research outcomes to seek market applications.

The committee will operate under a "collaborative innovation between industry and research" framework to deepen integration. It plans to establish three key platforms: a public evaluation platform that shifts from academic benchmarks to an "industry-problem-setting" model incorporating real industrial needs; an information hub to break down barriers between industry, academia, and research, moving beyond fragmented partnerships; and a professional endorsement platform, leveraging the credibility of the China Chinese Information Processing Society to reduce trust and friction costs in collaborations.

A work plan for the next 18 months has also been outlined. This includes selecting seed teams, analyzing industrial pathways, conducting needs assessments, and facilitating industrial operations. The committee will collaborate with specialized sub-committees to identify enterprise needs, release evaluation tasks, assist technical teams in solving practical problems, and explore project incubation opportunities. It will also organize technology salons, closed-door workshops, and in-depth interviews to study cutting-edge technological directions with industrial and societal value. Furthermore, it aims to identify young talent from top-performing evaluation teams to promote talent exchange between academia and industry.
