Avatar 3 Presale Opens! 198-Minute Runtime, Some Theaters Charge Up to 280 Yuan, Related Stocks Surge, Bona Film Group Rises for 4th Time in 5 Days

Deep News12-13

On December 12, the highly anticipated movie "Avatar: Fire and Ash" (Avatar 3) officially launched its presale. With a runtime of 198 minutes, the film is set for release on December 19, with early screenings starting at 6 PM on December 18.

Tickets are now available on major ticketing platforms, with prices ranging from 17.8 yuan to 280 yuan in Chengdu theaters. Lower-priced tickets are part of limited promotional offers, while premium formats like IMAX and CINITY command higher prices.

According to Maoyan Pro, as of midday on the 13th, presale and early screening revenue for Avatar 3 has exceeded 11 million yuan, with 832,000 users marking it as "want to watch."

As the third installment in the Avatar series, Avatar 3 sets a new record for the franchise with its epic length. Continuing the fantastical adventures on Pandora, the film explores deeper themes of humanity, nature, technology, and emotion. The story follows the aftermath of Avatar 2, where the Sully family, despite repelling invaders, suffers the loss of their eldest son. As grief lingers, new threats emerge, leading to an inevitable final battle.

Director James Cameron recently shared insights into the creative process during promotional events in Sanya. He revealed that the series reflects his personal growth and family experiences, stating, "Every artist has their own way of expression—I pour my feelings and experiences into my work."

Cameron also discussed his early struggles with anxiety and how fatherhood reshaped his perspective. "During Avatar’s production, my children entered adolescence, and I saw things anew as a father. The film shows how invincible heroes change when they become parents—a theme that resonates globally."

The director emphasized perseverance, recalling his early career challenges: "I always tell people not to give up. There’s no universal solution, which is why the film’s mantra is ‘A family sticks together and never quits.’"

Cameron’s deep-sea exploration experiences also influenced Avatar’s creature designs. "In 2012, during my deepest dive, I observed tiny, vibrant coral reefs unlike shallow-water ones. Avatar 3 features a jellyfish-like creature inspired by these dives."

The film reunites Cameron with cast members Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, while the Chinese dub features stars like Deng Chao and Zhang Ziyi.

Cameron’s films dominate the global box office, with the original Avatar (¥21.2 billion) still ranked first, Avatar 2 (¥16.825 billion) third, and Titanic (¥16.423 billion) fourth.

**Market Impact: Bona Film Group Surges** With Avatar 3’s presale launch, A-share film stocks have seen notable activity. Bona Film Group (001330.SZ) has surged, hitting four daily limits in five trading days.

Bona Film Group disclosed on an investor platform that TSG Entertainment granted it profit participation rights for Avatar 3, enabling global box office revenue sharing. However, the company cautioned that its investment share is minor and box office performance remains uncertain.

Other related stocks include China Film (600977.SH), a co-distributor for Avatar 3 in China. Aoto Electronics noted that CINITY LED systems will showcase an exclusive 4K/3D/48fps version of the film, leveraging cutting-edge technology for an immersive experience.

Analysts highlight the film’s potential to drive industry momentum. Gu Jia, chief media analyst at China Merchants Securities, remarked, "Blockbusters like Avatar 3 and Zootopia 2—released back-to-back—are rare, supercharged IPs that naturally fuel market excitement."

A Perfect World Cinema executive added, "This sequel represents top-tier production quality and a test for younger audiences’ reception of classic IPs."
