On the news front, geopolitical conflicts continue to intensify. After Tehran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen launched attacks on Riyadh's main airport, fighting between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthi forces continued to escalate. At the same time, tensions between the United States and Iran are also brewing. In addition, OPEC raised its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2027 to 2.55 million barrels per day (previously forecast at 2.36 million barrels per day). It lowered its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2026 to 180,000 barrels per day (previously forecast at 380,000 barrels per day). Some analysts pointed out that repeated Middle East tensions are expected to continue pushing up geopolitical risk premiums. Combined with the traditional peak season, oil shipping rates are expected to continue rising on a month-over-month basis, and port imports of crude oil and bulk commodity cargo volumes may also increase on a month-over-month basis.

Ping An Securities noted that there remains significant uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran conflict, the geopolitical deadlock remains unresolved, and traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is still far below normal levels. At the same time, the situation in Yemen is still escalating, with Houthi forces attacking Saudi oil facilities. The involvement of Houthi forces may also disrupt crude oil transportation through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea. Combined with US crude oil inventories still at historically low levels, short-term geopolitical risks still provide strong support for international oil prices.

*Looking ahead, Guosen Securities pointed out that with turbulence in the Middle East geopolitical situation, blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, combined with the suspension of the Caspian crude oil pipeline, global crude oil supply stability has significantly contracted; low inventories amplify price elasticity. In a high oil price environment, upstream oil and gas companies have ample profit elasticity, and coal-to-olefins and overseas integrated refining and chemical enterprises with low-cost advantages may benefit significantly.
