What sparks fly when traditional agriculture merges with digital technology? The answer becomes clear at the intelligent fruit and vegetable cultivation base in Zhenhao Village, Xuanhua Town, Gaotai County: no busy farmers are seen in the greenhouses, only real-time data flashing on digital control screens; rows of tomato plants hang heavy with plump, ripe fruit, showcasing the bountiful results of smart agriculture.
This transformation is credited to Gaotai County's 2025 first batch of fiscal funds for rural revitalization. The project effectively addresses the seasonal limitations of open-field vegetable production, complementing the supply base for Shanghai-bound vegetables and significantly enhancing the county's off-season supply capacity and overall competitiveness in the vegetable industry.
Xuanhua Town, with a resident population of less than 7,000, once faced challenges from aging and rural depopulation. In 2020, the town's Party committee and Zhenhao Village's Party branch led the consolidation of 3,100 mu of farmland into contiguous open-field vegetable bases, transforming fragmented plots into large-scale "prosperity fields."
"At first, everyone had concerns, but when the village Party branch took the lead and Party members set examples, we felt reassured," said villager Li Mingde, who now works steadily year-round in the greenhouses near his home instead of seeking migrant work.
Last year, Zhenhao Village's collective economic income exceeded 450,000 yuan through land consolidation and agricultural social services. This year, the village adopted an innovative "Party branch + company + base" model, pooling 4.5 million yuan to build 10 high-standard double-arch greenhouses equipped with smart temperature control, soil moisture monitoring, and integrated water-fertilizer systems.
These greenhouses now feature a "most powerful brain" – 5G sensors that collect environmental data in real time, enabling one-touch irrigation, lighting, and ventilation via mobile apps. The dual drive of "facilities + technology" has established a complete smart agriculture system.
"Current harvests show each greenhouse yields over 10,000 kg of tomatoes, selling at 2.5 yuan per kg," explained Zhu Jicai, Party branch secretary of Zhenhao Village.
To strengthen industrial resilience, the village established Gaotai Zhenpin Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd., partnering deeply with Henan Lvshengxiang Agricultural Company to form an industrial consortium featuring "village-enterprise cooperation, profit-sharing, and risk-sharing." The collective grows premium market-ready produce, while the partner provides seeds, technology, guaranteed purchase orders, and handles external sales.
This model also implements a "1225" benefit distribution mechanism: 10% of profits as working capital, 20% for fixed asset dividends, 20% to the village collective, and 50% to the partner enterprise, ensuring shared development benefits.
"The base has achieved remarkable results since its establishment," said Kou Jifeng, deputy mayor of Xuanhua Town. "It can sell over 500 tons of premium produce annually, boosting collective income beyond 1 million yuan while creating local jobs for nearly 300 residents and increasing household income by about 20,000 yuan."
Zhenhao Village's practice exemplifies Gaotai County's high-quality agricultural development. Leveraging its modern Silk Road cold-dry agriculture resources, the county has expanded vegetable production through "base expansion, product refinement, chain extension, and brand enhancement." Gaotai now ranks as a national standard demonstration county for vegetable production, a pioneer in green agricultural development, and Gansu Province's major vegetable producer, with products reaching markets in Xinjiang, Zhejiang, and Guangdong.
In 2025, Gaotai expects vegetable cultivation to cover 225,000 mu with 910,000-ton output, potentially generating over 2.5 billion yuan in full industrial chain value, injecting strong momentum into rural revitalization.
