In a significant leadership change within a key division, Hua Xia Bank Co.,Limited has appointed a new head for its wealth and private banking department, marking the first time the bank has brought in an external candidate from another commercial bank for this role. Concurrently, the former department head has taken up a new position as general manager at Hua Yin Fund.
Veteran from Minsheng Takes Helm at Hua Xia Bank's Wealth Unit
According to multiple sources, Liu Ying, previously the deputy head of Minsheng Bank's Taiyuan branch, has succeeded Liu Dan as the general manager of Hua Xia Bank's wealth and private banking department. This appointment represents the bank's first instance of recruiting a department head from an external financial institution since the department's establishment. Liu Ying, a 20-year veteran of Minsheng Bank, has extensive experience in wealth management, having held positions such as general manager of the wealth management business center and the business development center, and head of the exclusive product management center. After 2020, she gained branch management experience, serving as assistant president and later deputy head of the Yinchuan branch before moving to the Taiyuan branch.
Hua Xia Bank elevated its wealth and private banking unit to a first-tier department under the head office in October 2019. Prior to Liu Ying's appointment, four individuals had led the department: Xu Ming, Gao Bo, Zhao Caozhi, and Liu Dan. All four were promoted or rotated internally within Hua Xia Bank, making Liu Ying's external recruitment a departure from past practice. Notably, among the previous department heads, one was promoted to vice president of the bank in June 2023, underscoring the strategic importance of the role.
Wealth and private banking is positioned as a core driver of Hua Xia Bank's retail transformation. The bank's annual report data shows that by the end of 2025, its private banking clients had reached 20,200, a year-on-year increase of 21.71%. The total personal financial assets under management amounted to 1.114808 trillion yuan, up 11.28% year-on-year. Wealth management fee income for the year was 1.117 billion yuan, an increase of 16.48%, representing a stable source of profit growth for the retail segment. In the first quarter of 2026, the number of private banking clients further increased to 22,032, a quarterly growth of 9.1%.
Former Department Head Liu Dan Assumes Role at Hua Yin Fund
The career move of the former department head, Liu Dan, has also been confirmed. He has joined Hua Yin Fund and is slated to become its general manager. Liu Dan previously served as deputy general manager of Hua Xia Bank's investment banking department starting in November 2020 before taking over the wealth and private banking department in late 2024.
His predecessor at Hua Yin Fund was Xuan Xuezhu, who assumed the general manager role in August 2025. Prior to that, Xuan Xuezhu was the deputy head of Hua Xia Bank's financial markets department. In April 2026, both the chairman and general manager of Hua Yin Fund stepped down. Subsequently, another executive with ties to Hua Xia Bank, Chen Xiuliang, the general manager of the bank's international business department, took over as chairman of Hua Yin Fund and has been acting as its general manager.
While there is no direct equity relationship between Hua Yin Fund and Hua Xia Bank, the two entities have maintained close operational ties. In November 2025, a fund company changed its name to Hua Yin Fund and adopted a corporate logo similar to Hua Xia Bank's, which sparked market speculation. Hua Yin Fund clarified that while Hua Xia Bank provides significant support in business development, channel expansion, and investment research collaboration, there is currently no equity relationship between them.
Furthermore, there is notable personnel interchange between Hua Xia Bank and Beijing International Trust Co., Ltd., the major shareholder of Hua Yin Fund. For instance, Qu Gang, the current president of Hua Xia Bank, previously served as deputy general manager and general manager at Beijing International Trust. Additionally, both institutions share a background as state-owned enterprises under the control of the Beijing municipal government.
