US Turns Into Net Bitcoin Inflow Nation as Institutions Buy Aggressively While Retail Sells

According to Woofun AI, the United States became a net inflow country for Bitcoin for the first time in 2026, a structural reversal confirmed by the latest Chainalysis report, marking the first fundamental change in the direction of the country's capital flows since 2022.

The report titled "North America: Inside the Growth of Agentic Commerce," released on Wednesday, October 16, revealed that market behavior shows significant divergence: institutions continue to buy, while retail investors are overall in a selling state.

Woofun AI data shows that US dollar stablecoins provide a way for those without US bank accounts to hold dollars. Given that Americans already have dollar accounts, the rest of the world is turning to digital dollars, while Americans rely more on Bitcoin as a scarce store of value.

Since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2024, the United States' share of global Bitcoin activity has been rising in every reporting period. Even as the US crypto economy (US$2.78 trillion) contracted 2.2% during the bear market, it still retained most of the gains from nearly doubling in 2025.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission approved Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, after having rejected such products for a decade; funds managed by Wall Street institutions such as BlackRock (BLK.US), Fidelity, and more recently Morgan Stanley (MS.US) set the most successful launch record in ETF history.

Stablecoins have transformed US debt into the preferred currency for peer-to-peer economies and cross-border businesses. In 2026, stablecoins continue to enter new application scenarios, mainly occurring overseas, bringing billions of dollars in economic activity to US businesses and the government.

Since Trump assumed the presidency, multiple laws and executive orders supporting the crypto industry have been signed, among which the GENIUS Act signed in 2025 allows entities such as banks to issue stablecoins, provided they are backed by assets such as US Treasury bonds and disclose reserves monthly.
