Man Extracts 191 Grams of Gold from 170 Kilograms of SIM Cards

A man in Guangdong successfully extracted 191.73 grams of gold from a batch of waste SIM card chips on January 20.

The man explained that to ensure stability and corrosion resistance, SIM cards are gold-plated on critical components such as the chips and contact pins.

Besides SIM cards, other materials like bank card chips and old mobile phones are also considered gold-bearing scrap.

However, it is important to note that the gold content in a single SIM card is extremely low, amounting to only about 0.02 grams or even less.

Furthermore, the extraction process is hazardous and is not recommended for individuals to attempt.
