Drumbeats thundered as water splashed high, with 33 dragon boat teams shooting forward like arrows across the emerald waves. On June 14th, the Financial Street area in Beijing's Xicheng District witnessed the fiery opening of the 15th Dragon Boat Race, part of the "Financial Street Cup" Sports Season, held on the shores of Shichahai Lake. Competitors from organizations such as the Ministry of Education, Xinhua News Agency, and Bank of China sliced through the waters, collectively staging a grand aquatic spectacle that blended tradition with modernity, and echoed with the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
The opening ceremony featured a powerful blessing chant, "A dot for the dragon's eyes brings peace through the seasons," as a cinnabar brush was used to paint the vivid eyes onto the dragon boats, imbuing the event with auspiciousness and vitality. The competition then commenced in earnest, with rowers pulling their oars powerfully, their synchronized chants intertwining with cheers from the shore, transforming the tranquil waters into an arena brimming with competitive fervor.
This year's event was notable for its diverse range of participating teams, which spanned various sectors including government ministries, financial institutions, and major state-owned enterprises, fully demonstrating the cross-industry cohesion within the Financial Street area. The competition was jointly organized by the Financial Street Sub-district Office, the Xicheng District Sports Bureau, and the Financial Street Chamber of Commerce. Through a novel "hosting" format, the event allowed companies to build friendships through competition, fostering cooperation in a relaxed atmosphere and highlighting the organizational strengths of the area's party-building and team-building platforms.
Youthful energy was also prominent both on and off the water. The School of Physical Education and Sports Science at Beijing Normal University, a member of the "Beijing Xicheng · University Development Alliance," actively participated in university-local collaboration. They sent their "Jingshi Longteng Team," which had previously won the overall championship at the 2025 Liangxiang University Town Dragon Boat Invitational, to deliver an impressive pre-race performance.
After intense competition, the team representing ICBC Credit Suisse Asset Management clinched the championship with an outstanding time of 1 minute and 32.21 seconds. The Beijing Branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and China Datang Corporation secured second place, while the third-place honors went to teams from Ping An Health Insurance Beijing Branch, China Construction Bank, and the Ministry of Education.
Moving forward, the Financial Street Sub-district Office plans to continue developing a series of sporting events, including badminton, pickleball, and tennis. It will also explore introducing emerging and trendy sports, aiming to build a model for public fitness characterized by "low barriers and high participation," thereby injecting vibrant energy into the high-quality development of the region.
