Summer Airfare Plunge Sees Many Routes Cheaper Than High-Speed Rail

Deep News07-08

As July begins, the 2026 summer travel season has officially commenced. Influenced by factors such as increased flight schedules and a substantial reduction in fuel surcharges, airfares for this year's summer period have hit a multi-year low, with ticket prices for many popular routes in early July even falling below the cost of second-class high-speed rail tickets, driving a significant surge in flight bookings.

On July 7th, a check of travel platforms revealed that from Beijing, numerous routes are available starting from as low as 200 yuan. These include Beijing to Lüliang and Beijing to Anshan, starting at 200 yuan; Beijing to Changzhi, starting at 210 yuan; and Beijing to Yulin and Beijing to Taiyuan, starting at 220 yuan. Furthermore, airfares from Beijing to several provincial capitals, including Changchun, Wuhan, Nanchang, and Xi'an, are all under 300 yuan.
