The 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Conference was held from October 20 to 22 at the Huangpu Expo Park in Shanghai.

During a roundtable dialogue at the industry-themed forum titled "Advancing High-Quality Development with Eastern Strength," Wu Xiao, Vice President of Trina Solar Co., Ltd. (SHA: 688599) and head of the group's ESG management and risk control, shared his outlook on future opportunities in the coordination between computing power and electricity.

Wu Xiao stated that after years of exploring the business, he found that the biggest opportunity lies in AI becoming the medium that connects computing power systems with electricity systems.

Trina Solar Co., Ltd. (SHA: 688599) has also attempted to extend from being an energy company into computing power, beginning to deploy an AI-powered intelligent operations platform that helps customers optimize energy usage, predict electricity fluctuations and electricity prices, and assist customers in achieving better trading revenue, which brings additional value to customers and adds more premium.

In Wu Xiao's view, the opportunity lies in deeply studying business scenarios and business models.

Business scenarios involve various aspects, and enterprises should, based on their own product characteristics, resource advantages, and core strengths, clearly define which part of the entire supply chain and industry chain they can fill and position themselves in the high-yield segment.

Partners will also look at which part of the entire supply chain and industry chain is most suitable as an investment target.

Within the entire chain, the optimal portion can be selected as an investment to maximize assets, allowing all parties to find their own profit points within the ecosystem, and the underlying risk control points will then be clearly identified.

"For enterprises, the most important core of seizing opportunities is managing risks well," Wu Xiao said, offering recommendations around risk.

Beforehand, risks should be incorporated into the entire project due diligence, not only examining current investment returns but also considering the impact of future uncertain risks on project investment recovery, cash flow, and project sustainability.

External black swan or gray rhino events could cause a project to be halted, and these risks must be considered in advance with contingency plans prepared.

In terms of during and after-the-fact control, a company's organizational capabilities are needed to progressively track changes in project risks and coordinate well with partners, capital markets, and the supply chain to jointly address future uncertain risks.

Regarding external responses, Wu Xiao stated that in many cases, not only the national macroeconomic level but also the geopolitical level must be considered.

Every enterprise is a small molecule within the larger environment, and many risks cannot be controlled by the enterprise itself.

Therefore, enterprises must maintain diversified markets, diversified business scenarios, and diversified business models, which are long-term capabilities necessary to ensure corporate sustainability and the sustainable development of industries and sectors.
