First Batch of Meituan Riders' Pension Insurance Subsidies Implemented in Fuzhou

Deep News12-12

On the 10th, the first Meituan Riders' Home in Fujian Province opened in Mawei District, Fuzhou City. It was announced that the first batch of Meituan riders' pension insurance subsidies have been successfully implemented in Fuzhou following the nationwide rollout of the program.

"I’m thrilled the subsidy arrived smoothly—now I only need to pay 400 yuan per month to continue my social security contributions. With retirement security in place, I feel more motivated at work!" said rider Chi Chongzhu happily.

In April this year, Meituan launched a pension insurance subsidy program for all its riders. The program allows riders to choose whether to enroll and apply for subsidies in their hometown or workplace, based on personal needs. As long as a rider’s monthly income on Meituan meets the local contribution base threshold and they have met this condition for at least three months in the past six months, Meituan will provide a subsidy covering 50% of the contribution base. The program has now been extended nationwide.

"We are pleased to see industry leaders like Meituan actively taking on social responsibilities in Fuzhou. We will collaborate with trade unions, human resources, transportation authorities, and local communities to further improve the rights protection mechanisms for new employment groups, ensuring they can work with dignity, live with a sense of belonging, and strive with hope," said a representative from Mawei District’s Social Work Department.

Zhuang Jiazhi, associate professor at the School of Sociology and Psychology at the Central University of Finance and Economics, noted that Meituan’s social security program follows the principle of "corporate subsidies, government guidance, and voluntary participation." It balances scale and flexibility, effectively integrating riders into institutionalized protection. The program serves as a replicable model for social security contributions among flexible workers, helping to break barriers in new employment group protections, drive corporate social responsibility transformation, and enhance worker dignity while promoting social harmony and stability.
