Economic Vitality Through Customs Data: Agricultural Products Accelerate Overseas Expansion as "Grassland Flavors" Broaden Their Reach

Deep News12-15

On a chilly winter morning in northern China, customs officers at Haogan Fruit & Vegetable Import and Export Park in Erenhot had already completed inspections for the day’s produce exports. Workers were loading trucks with fresh apples, tomatoes, and cabbage destined for Mongolia. "These goods clear customs in the morning via the China-Mongolia agricultural ‘green channel’ and reach Ulaanbaatar’s markets by the next day," explained Duan Hongqi, the company’s inspection officer.

Meanwhile, in Bayannur, customs officials from Urat Customs (under Hohhot Customs) were conducting on-site checks on pumpkin seeds bound for Australia at Inner Mongolia Yuguan Food Processing Co., Ltd. After verifying weights and batch numbers, samples were collected for lab testing. "Once cleared, we issue e-certificates swiftly to expedite customs clearance," said inspector Duan Chenyi.

The company expects to export 18,000 tons of pumpkin seeds this year, with orders already exceeding 23,000 tons. "Our exports have grown 15–20% annually since founding four years ago, now serving over 60 countries," noted Xue Huiyan, the company’s office director.

By November, Bayannur’s agricultural exports had surged 17.5% year-on-year to 7.51 billion yuan, accounting for 60% of Inner Mongolia’s total. Innovations like online declarations and "cloud-issued" inspection certificates by Urat Customs have streamlined trade efficiency.

Inner Mongolia’s agricultural sector is diversifying its global footprint. Recent milestones include the first exports of crabs to Malaysia, pet food to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, fresh-cut flowers to the U.S., and dairy products to Hong Kong and Macao.

"Currently, 124 types of agricultural products are exported, led by sunflower seeds, nuts, frozen vegetables, and tomatoes," said Cui Jiangao, deputy director of Hohhot Customs’ statistics division. Emerging markets like Russia, Iraq, Turkey, South Korea, and Uzbekistan saw exports grow up to 129.2% in early 2025.

Hohhot Customs plans to further support key industries like dairy and meat by facilitating international registrations, boosting regional specialties’ global presence.
