Inner Mongolia's Department of Transportation has officially released the "Artificial Intelligence + Transportation" Implementation Plan, which outlines 16 key tasks across six major areas: strengthening the AI digital foundation, intelligent construction and maintenance, transportation services, industry governance, smart airports, and smart postal services. The plan covers multiple application scenarios, including intelligent construction, autonomous driving, smart logistics, intelligent law enforcement, and road network monitoring, aiming to drive digital and intelligent upgrades in the transportation sector.

Strengthening the digital foundation

To bolster the digital base, Inner Mongolia will further consolidate its data infrastructure, creating a unified "one map" for the entire region's transportation network. The plan involves deep integration with the Ministry of Transportation's large AI model ecosystem, promoting the application of relevant datasets, algorithm libraries, and tool chains. Additionally, it explores the operation of public data assets, cultivating industry data service enterprises to unlock the value of data.

Intelligent construction and maintenance

In the field of intelligent construction and maintenance, the plan proposes integrating the "Beidou + Internet of Things (IoT) + BIM + Big Data" technology system across the entire lifecycle of transportation infrastructure—from planning and design to construction, operation, and maintenance. It advocates for the deployment of lightweight intelligent road inspection vehicles, tunnel inspection robots for bridges and tunnels, and high-slope monitoring drones, establishing a comprehensive "road-air integrated" road inspection system. The plan also explores building a preventive maintenance decision-making framework based on big data.

Transportation services

Regarding transportation services, Inner Mongolia will enhance research and application of key technologies for autonomous truck driving and platooning. It will further promote the use of AGV cross-border transport and new energy autonomous heavy trucks for cross-border logistics. The plan also advances smart logistics development by accelerating the adoption of integrated logistics service platforms, and it aims to implement "card-free" convenient passage on highways, providing the public with a "seamless travel" experience.

Industry governance

For industry governance, Inner Mongolia will continue to maximize the sharing of government administrative data, accelerating the construction of a comprehensive transportation administrative law enforcement management system. It emphasizes intelligent control of major road disasters and enhances the application of smart video terminals for "two passenger and one dangerous" vehicles (long-distance passenger buses, tourist buses, and dangerous goods transport vehicles), improving proactive safety protection capabilities.

Smart airports and smart postal services

Additionally, the plan outlines innovative applications for smart airports and smart postal services. It promotes the use of autonomous driving technology in airport baggage handling and cargo transportation, speeds up the intelligent upgrade and renovation of express logistics parks and processing facilities, and encourages the deployment of unmanned vehicles in the postal sector.
