Amazon's AI chip team has lost another key member. A senior director associated with the Trainium processor has reportedly departed, adding to the growing list of exits from the division.
Gadi Hutt, who was previously responsible for product and customer engineering at Annapurna Labs, played a significant role in shaping Amazon's custom AI chips. This team has been a central force in Amazon's push to develop its own silicon and reduce reliance on external suppliers. Amazon acquired Annapurna Labs for $350 million in 2015, and since then, the team has become a critical pillar of the company's AI infrastructure strategy.
The pattern of departures is notable. Hutt is the second senior executive to leave within seven months, following Rami Senno's move to Arm in August of last year. Beyond the chip team, Amazon's broader AI leadership has also seen changes, including the departure of General AI leader Rohit Prasad by the end of 2025. These developments are occurring as competition for AI talent intensifies across the industry.
