According to reports, internet personality You Zhaolin appeared at a family-friendly event organized by Taipei City Council candidate Wu Yixuan on May 23, throwing eggs at former Taipei Mayor and Taiwan People's Party founder Ko Wen-je. The egg splatter also affected two volunteers, who subsequently filed charges of property damage against You. He was detained by police at the scene.
Following interrogation by prosecutors that evening, You was informed that he could be released on a bail of NT$80,000 (approximately 17,600 yuan). However, as he was unable to pay the amount, prosecutors reduced the bail to NT$10,000 by noon on May 24, allowing You to secure his release.
In response, candidate Wu Yixuan stated on the 24th that the Taipei District Prosecutors Office showed excessive leniency by lowering the bail for an individual who has long been inciting hatred and threatening public safety. She described the prosecutor's decision as "truly merciful" and expressed deep regret over the matter.
Wu further noted that the family event had many children present, and You's lawless intrusion into the venue had frightened numerous parents and children. She emphasized that this was not his first offense, labeling him a habitual offender who consistently engages in disruptive behavior. Fortunately, no serious injuries occurred this time, but the potential consequences could have been dire. She lamented that the Taipei prosecutors let him off lightly with a mere NT$10,000 bail.
Media reports indicate that You Zhaolin, who calls himself an internet celebrity, has become known in recent years as Taiwan's "master of causing disturbances." This incident is not his first offense; he has repeatedly intruded into professional basketball and baseball games, as well as other large-scale events, causing disruptions and shouting to attract media attention and online traffic.
