Swire Pacific (00087.HK) published its Sustainability Report 2025, detailing progress against its “SD 2050” strategy across climate, waste, water, people and community pillars.
Key operating divisions covered—Swire Properties, Swire Coca-Cola and HAECO Group—represent the bulk of the Group’s environmental footprint; associate Cathay Group is included only under Scope 3 emissions.
CLIMATE PERFORMANCE • Scope 1 and 2 emissions fell 10% year-on-year to 0.42 million tonnes CO₂e, taking the reduction to 46% versus the 2018 baseline, close to the Group’s 50% cut targeted for 2030. • Electricity remained the largest source of emissions; 38% of power consumed now comes from renewable sources, up from 34% last year. • Swire Properties and Swire Coca-Cola have science-based targets aligned with the 1.5°C pathway approved by the SBTi; an internal carbon‐pricing pilot applies a US$40/tCO₂e carbon fee and US$100/tCO₂e shadow price to major projects.
WASTE MANAGEMENT • Total waste generated dropped 10% to 67.2 thousand tonnes; 64% was diverted from landfill, edging towards the 65% diversion goal set for 2030. • Swire Coca-Cola achieved a 93% diversion rate, aided by the New Life Plastics rPET facility, which recycled 200 million bottles and now produces 400 tonnes of food-grade rPET monthly.
WATER STEWARDSHIP • Freshwater withdrawal decreased 2% to 18.57 million cubic metres, a 27% cut against the 2018 frozen-efficiency baseline, nearing the 30% reduction target for 2030. • Swire Coca-Cola’s water use ratio stood at 1.85 litres per litre of product; all plants now have third-party validated Source Vulnerability Assessments and Water Management Plans.
PEOPLE & SAFETY • Workforce totalled 50,751; average tenure was 9.3 years, with voluntary turnover at 10%. Women held 37% of management roles and 27% of Strategic Leader positions; female board representation averaged above the 30% target over the latest three-year cycle. • Lost-time injury rate fell 22% to 0.21 per 100 FTEs; one employee fatality was recorded at Swire Coca-Cola Vietnam.
COMMUNITY INVESTMENT • The Group, including operating companies, contributed HK$127 million in cash and in-kind donations; the Swire Trust accounted for HK$44 million across 48 active programme grants, benefiting 3.2 million people.
RECOGNITION & GOVERNANCE • Swire Pacific was added to the CDP Climate “A List” and maintained inclusion in leading ESG indices such as Dow Jones Best-in-Class Asia Pacific and MSCI ESG “AA”. • Sustainability oversight rests with the Board-level Swire Group Sustainability Committee; progress is reviewed quarterly, while key ESG metrics inform executive remuneration at operating companies.
LOOKING AHEAD Swire Pacific affirmed commitment to net-zero emissions, zero waste to landfill and water neutrality by 2050, with a HK$100 million annual Sustainable Development Fund and expanded internal carbon pricing to accelerate decarbonisation initiatives in 2026.
