CICC's Peng Wensheng: China's Green Industry Economies of Scale Represent Major Contribution to Global Economy

Deep News01-10

The 2026 China Chief Economists Forum Annual Meeting was held in Shanghai from January 10th to 11th, centered on the theme "Mid-Game Strategy: Building on the Past to Forge a Strong Nation." Peng Wensheng, Chief Economist of China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC), attended the event and delivered a speech.

Peng Wensheng expressed that there should be full confidence in China's green transition and industrial development, noting that the global community, especially emerging market nations, has benefited from the growth of China's green industries, which has led to a rapid decline in the cost of green energy.

He pointed out that fossil fuels constitute a monopolistic industry, whereas the green sector is characterized by full competition; such competition implies that when an industry achieves scale and is highly competitive, everyone stands to gain. The economies of scale achieved by China's green industry represent a significant contribution to the global economy.
