On April 29, Schaeffler and CIDI-NEW (03881) formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The partnership will concentrate on commercial vehicles such as pure electric intelligent mining trucks and logistics vehicles. The collaboration will focus on distributed electric drive systems and solutions, encompassing vehicle electronic and electrical architecture and distributed vehicle control, to jointly promote the electrification and intelligent transformation of commercial vehicles and establish a benchmark cooperative model for intelligent commercial scenarios.
The collaboration represents a deep complementarity of technology and application scenarios, targeting the direction of commercial vehicle transformation. Driven by policy, technology, and application demands, China's commercial vehicle industry is undergoing a profound shift towards "electrification plus intelligence," with intelligent demand continuously rising in scenarios like mining trucks and closed-campus logistics.
Schaeffler, as a globally leading automotive and industrial product supplier, possesses over 75 years of technical expertise and top-tier engineering service capabilities in areas including electric drives, mechatronics, chassis applications, and vehicle system integration, enabling it to provide efficient and reliable distributed electric drive solutions for commercial vehicles.
CIDI-NEW is a world-leading intelligent driving technology company, focused on the research and development of autonomous driving mining trucks, logistics vehicles, V2X vehicle networking, and intelligent perception technologies. It has mature commercial deployment experience in closed scenarios such as mining areas and logistics, making the advantages of the two companies highly complementary.
According to the agreement, the two parties will act as strategic suppliers and preferred customers for each other in the Chinese market. Through models such as joint R&D, co-creation of solutions, resource sharing, and industrial implementation, they aim to accelerate the transformation of technological achievements into products, enhancing product competitiveness and market responsiveness.
The partnership will focus on four core technologies to tackle challenges in distributed electric drive systems. With pure electric intelligent mining trucks and logistics vehicles as the core application scenarios, the collaboration will center on four key technological areas to build a complete technical solution: Development of Vehicle Electronic and Electrical Architecture to create an efficient, reliable, and scalable framework supporting intelligent upgrades for commercial vehicles; Development of Distributed Vehicle Control to advance distributed control technology, improving dynamic control precision and operational stability; Development of Vehicle Health Management to construct a full-lifecycle health management system covering real-time status monitoring, fault prediction, and lifecycle management; and Vehicle System Integration and Testing to conduct full-process system integration and verification, ensuring the compatibility and reliability of related technologies and solutions.
This cooperation is not accidental. Based in a central hub for science and technology innovation, both companies are deeply rooted in the regional ecosystem for intelligent connected and new energy vehicles and have already established a solid foundation for collaboration in Changsha. In 2019, Schaeffler Intelligent Driving Technology (Changsha) Co., Ltd., also known as Schaeffler's second R&D center in China, was established in Hunan Changsha, focusing on automotive mechatronics, smart mobility, and electric drives. Leveraging local industrial clusters and collaborative innovation advantages, the two parties have completed preliminary technical alignment in areas such as intelligent chassis, laying a solid foundation for this strategic partnership.
Dr. Liu Yong, Chief Technology Officer of Schaeffler China, stated that as a technology company focused on drive systems, Schaeffler always adheres to innovation as its core driving force. Amid the wave of commercial vehicle electrification and intelligence, Schaeffler will fully leverage its profound technical accumulation and excellent system capabilities to jointly promote the innovation and upgrade of intelligent driving technologies for commercial vehicles with its partners, contributing to the high-quality development of the industry.
Dr. Ma Wei, Co-founder of CIDI-NEW, stated that the electrification and intelligence of commercial vehicles is an inevitable industry trend and a rigid demand. Relying on mature full-stack autonomous driving technology and the capability for large-scale commercial deployment in essential scenarios such as mining areas, ports, and industrial parks, CIDI-NEW will deeply integrate the resource advantages of both parties to continuously create tangible, high-efficiency core value for customers, comprehensively contributing to safer travel, more efficient operations, and more reliable performance for commercial vehicles.
In the future, the two parties will continue to deepen their collaborative efforts, focus on industry needs, and explore innovative technologies to help advance the electrification and intelligent transformation of commercial vehicles to new heights, injecting sustained momentum into the intelligent, green, and integrated development of the transportation industry.
