Official data released by Singapore's maritime authority on Monday shows that the nation's marine fuel sales rebounded in May after a decline in the prior month, reaching their highest level in two months, driven by an increase in vessel arrivals.
As the world's largest bunkering hub, Singapore's total marine fuel sales for May amounted to 4.55 million metric tons. This represents a 4.5% increase compared to April, although it is still 6.8% lower than the sales recorded in May of the previous year.
The number of vessels arriving for bunkering in May rose by 7.3% month-on-month to reach 3,690. Additionally, container throughput increased by 4.9% from the previous month, reaching 3.94 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Sales of mainstream conventional fuels were generally stable, with certain categories showing gains. The sales volume for the primary low-sulfur marine fuel (0.5% sulfur content, VLSFO) in May was 2.29 million metric tons, marking a 4.7% increase from April. Meanwhile, sales of high-sulfur fuel oil remained steady, holding at 1.79 million metric tons.
