Musk Unveils Colossus 2 Expansion Timeline: NVIDIA Chip Count May More Than Double by Year-End

Stock News15:11

Elon Musk has indicated that Colossus 2, the AI computing cluster developed by his company xAI, could hold more than double the number of NVIDIA (NVDA.US) chips by the end of this year compared to current levels. xAI has now been merged into SpaceX (SPCX.US).

The billionaire provided his most detailed timeline to date for the expansion of the Memphis-area cluster as he races to scale up computing capacity.

In a post on X, Musk said Colossus 2 currently houses 110,000 NVIDIA GB200 chips and 440,000 GB300 chips. He also stated that 220,000 GB300 chips will be brought online next week, with another 220,000 expected to come online in November. If "luck is on our side," another 220,000 chips could go live by the end of December.

The business unit previously said it plans to equip the Memphis facility with 1 million graphics processing units (GPUs) by 2026.

It is understood that in February 2026, SpaceX completed its acquisition of xAI through an all-stock transaction. In May, SpaceX signed a cloud services agreement with frontier large-model company Anthropic, which will use computing power from the Colossus and Colossus 2 data centers. In addition, SpaceX has successively signed computing power cooperation agreements with Google, Reflection AI, and others.
