Anchored in Suining, Engaging Globally: Growing with the "Lithium Capital" | 21 Cities Dialogue

Deep News04-03

The development of Suining's lithium battery industry cannot be discussed without focusing on TIANQI LITHIUM. Expanding from Suining to the global market over more than 30 years, TIANQI LITHIUM has become one of the few leading international lithium companies with strategic layouts in both high-quality hard-rock lithium mines and salt lake lithium resources. The company's Anju base, located in Suining's Anju District, serves as a key operational site. As the leading enterprise in Suining's "Lithium Capital," how does TIANQI LITHIUM pursue its new lithium ambitions? Recently, Jiang Hucheng, General Manager of Suining TIANQI LITHIUM Co., Ltd., shared his insights.

When asked about navigating the recent significant adjustments in the lithium battery industry, Jiang Hucheng stated that high-quality development in the sector extends beyond resources alone. It critically depends on long-term support for supply chain resilience, raw material stability, and industrial chain coordination. Consequently, the company closely adheres to its strategy of "consolidating the upstream, strengthening the midstream, and penetrating the downstream." It remains focused on increasing production and expanding capacity, with ongoing enhancements to the output of its overseas spodumene mining projects. Process improvements have been implemented across all six major production bases, including those in Shehong and Anju, to further reduce production costs and improve efficiency. To avoid disorderly competition characterized by low quality and low prices, TIANQI LITHIUM is actively transforming from a "lithium resource supplier" into a "new materials solutions provider." It has established an integrated supply chain system that synergizes "resources, capacity, and customers." Simultaneously, through continuous optimization of production processes, the quality of its lithium carbonate remains industry-leading, with carbon management integrated throughout the entire workflow. Looking ahead, the company will further explore strategic layout opportunities within the new energy value chain. It aims to better capture opportunities presented by next-generation battery materials and new energy industry development, focusing on application areas such as electric vehicles, energy storage, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), drones, and humanoid robots.

Regarding the current development momentum of Suining's lithium battery industry, Jiang Hucheng expressed that TIANQI LITHIUM and the local lithium industry have grown together, achieving mutual success. He observed that Suining's lithium battery sector is developing steadily with improving trends, and its advantages are becoming increasingly evident. Driven by multi-party strategic coordination and factor aggregation, Suining continues to burnish its reputation as the "Lithium Capital." It has attracted a cluster of high-quality enterprises with industry influence, leading to continuous improvements in the completeness of the industrial chain and the competitiveness of the cluster. Suining has become a pivotal hub in the lithium industry landscape of Sichuan Province and the entire nation. As a new energy materials enterprise centered on lithium, TIANQI LITHIUM will persistently leverage R&D innovation and process optimization as key drivers. It will promote the high-value utilization of lithium resources and advance technologies in frontier areas like next-generation battery materials, continuously enhancing product quality and production efficiency. Furthermore, the company will rely on Suining's solid industrial foundation and comprehensive advantages to continually consolidate and optimize local production and operations. This will facilitate the stable operation and high-quality development of related businesses, thereby better serving the long-term stability and sustainable development of the new energy industry chain.

On the impact of new technologies on the lithium battery industry, Jiang Hucheng noted that the core logic of global competition is shifting from a "contest of resource volume" to a "competition based on high-standard lithium products." Based on this assessment, the company has made sustained investments in three key areas. First, it has established high-level R&D platforms. The TIANQI LITHIUM Innovation and Experimental Research Institute officially commenced operations last year to accelerate the industrial conversion of cutting-edge technologies. Second, it has intensified R&D efforts in key materials for solid-state batteries. The company independently developed a new product, "lithium sulfide," a core material for solid-state batteries, which was launched last November. This material is undergoing testing and application, and a pilot production line with an annual capacity of 50 tons is being actively advanced, gradually forming an innovation闭环 from material to application. Third, the company is building a collaborative innovation ecosystem. Through partnerships with universities like Sichuan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and University of Science and Technology Beijing, and by signing strategic agreements with leading downstream enterprises, TIANQI LITHIUM has established a "company + university + industrial chain" collaboration mechanism. This aims to create a fast track from laboratory research to industrial application.
