The Gansu Badain Jaran Desert Base Power Transmission to Sichuan Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current Project, also known as the Gansu-Sichuan Power Transmission Project, has received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, marking a breakthrough in the project's preliminary work, according to information obtained from State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company.
The Gansu-Sichuan Power Transmission Project has a total installed capacity of 15 million kilowatts for its supporting power sources. The sending end will connect to the Gansu Badain Jaran Desert large-scale wind and solar base in the sand and desert region, with a supporting new energy installed capacity of 11 million kilowatts.
Of this, wind power accounts for 4.3 million kilowatts and photovoltaic power accounts for 6.7 million kilowatts. The project will also be supported by 4 million kilowatts of peak-shaving coal power and 2 million kilowatts/4-hour electrochemical energy storage, achieving multi-energy complementarity between northwest wind and solar power and southwest hydropower, as well as coordinated operation of thermal and hydroelectric power.
