AIA Group Ltd (HKG: 1299) has released its results for the third quarter of 2026, with group new business value declining 5% to US$1.415 billion on a constant exchange rate basis, reflecting downturns in the Hong Kong and Mainland China operations that were partly offset by an 18% increase in new business value from the group's other reporting segments.
The group's new business value staged a strong recovery in September, growing more than 25% year on year. Overall, benefiting from a favorable shift in Mainland China's product and channel mix, the new business value margin rose 5.3 percentage points to 63.5%. Annualized new premiums decreased 13% to US$2.237 billion, mainly due to the impact of the Mainland China operation; total weighted premium income, however, increased 7% to US$12.892 billion. The margin reported on a new business premium present value basis remained unchanged at 11%.
As announced in the group's 2026 interim results, the group expects to exceed its target of a 9% to 11% compound annual growth rate in operating profit after tax per share from 2023 to 2026. New business value for the first nine months of 2026 rose 5% to US$4.627 billion, driven by growth across all reporting segments except the Thailand operation.
AIA Group Chief Executive Officer and President Lee Yuan Siong said: "AIA delivered 5% growth in new business value in the first nine months of 2026, although exceptionally high sales in the year-earlier period for our Hong Kong and Mainland China operations weighed on third quarter growth. The group's new business value staged a strong recovery in September, growing more than 25% year on year."
"The group continues to see attractive growth opportunities across its markets. Customer demand for protection, health, savings and retirement solutions remains robust, and the group is continuing to invest in its own competitive advantages to capture these opportunities. The agency business foundation continues to strengthen, with the number of active agents, new recruits and new agency leaders all rising compared with last year; at the same time, the group's cooperation with its bank partners has deepened further."
"The group enters the fourth quarter with strong momentum and remains confident in its outlook. As announced in the group's 2026 interim results, the group expects to exceed its target of a 9% to 11% compound annual growth rate in operating profit after tax per share from 2023 to 2026, fully reflecting how the group's profitable new business growth translates into higher profitability and creates long-term value for shareholders."
