On November 28, Qingdao Port announced the completion of unloading 68,250 tons of wheat from a bulk carrier in just 21 hours, setting a new industry record for grain terminal operations. This marks the second time this year that the port has broken this record, reinforcing its role in securing winter-spring grain supply and bolstering national food security.
The achievement reflects the dual advantages of "China's intelligent manufacturing" and precision management. Qingdao Port has implemented an innovative single-vessel production responsibility mechanism, maximizing the efficiency of fully automated grab cranes and unloaders. By integrating digital automation control technology and a unified intelligent management platform, the port has automated operations across five key areas: shore equipment, truck loading, container handling, grain transport logistics, and silo cleaning.
Additionally, the port relies on its "Smart Falcon" safety control system to establish a closed-loop management mechanism, ensuring real-time monitoring of operational safety. Collaborative efforts from customs, maritime, and border control authorities at Dongjiakou Port further streamlined grain clearance through dedicated "green channels." The port’s production dispatch command center coordinated operations seamlessly, while meteorological assessments and pilotage scheduling were optimized for efficiency.
To prepare for the record-breaking operation, Qingdao Port’s Dongjiakou branch meticulously planned berthing schedules, pre-cleared eight silos to accommodate the wheat shipment, and conducted thorough equipment inspections. Customized phased unloading plans were developed for each cargo hold to ensure safety and efficiency.
As food security remains a national priority, Qingdao Port continues to enhance its grain logistics network, aiming to elevate port service quality and solidify its reputation as a leading grain handling hub, contributing to high-quality economic development.
