To welcome the peak travel period of the Spring Festival, China Eastern Airlines has focused on the diverse needs of passengers and upgraded its "China Eastern Airlines App," using AI technology as the core driver and extending it with full-scenario services. Through intelligent features such as smart itinerary planning, digital human interaction, and real-time travel care, coupled with online and offline linked benefit activities, the airline aims to create a more convenient, comfortable, and warmer journey home for the New Year for its passengers.
Facing the overlapping demands for family visits, travel, and returning to school brought by the "longest Spring Festival holiday in history," China Eastern Airlines has launched a "Gorgeous East · New Year Reunion Season" section on its APP and mini-program, gathering a variety of cost-effective travel products. To cater to post-holiday travel demand, the section offers rich options like the "Fun Travel Card." Taking the "National Edition 10-Trip" product as an example, passengers can purchase it for 3,900 yuan, securing the right to redeem 10 flight tickets, with the average one-way fare as low as 390 yuan, redeemable for flights to popular destinations like Shanghai to Beijing, Chengdu, and Sanya. After a member's first trip, the purchase amount will be counted towards their annual consumption, aiding in membership tier retention or upgrade.
To serve the winter vacation travel needs of students and teachers, corresponding activities have been launched in the section. From now until March 15th, purchasing flights departing from Shanghai before February 1st, or arriving in Shanghai between February 27th and March 15th, qualifies for a direct discount of up to 10%. Students and teachers can also add family and friends as beneficiaries to share the ticket purchase benefits.
To better serve the Spring Festival travel demand, the China Eastern Airlines App also fully utilizes large AI model capabilities to enhance the user experience. Addressing common passenger issues like complex itinerary planning and separate bookings for flights and hotels, the app introduced an "AI Itinerary Planning" function. Passengers simply need to state their requirements—such as departure date, origin, and destination—in natural language, and the app will generate a personalized plan including recommendations for attractions and dining. If the travel party includes children or seniors, the app can make targeted adjustments for family or senior travel scenarios; over 10 million passengers experienced this function last year.
Simultaneously, the China Eastern Airlines App has added features like one-click booking for flights and hotels within the itinerary, allowing passengers to complete their arrangements in a single operation. Furthermore, to help passengers find service entry points more conveniently, the app has launched a "Digital Human" function. Passengers can interact with the digital human "Dong Dong" via voice or text input, not only to handle tasks like flight booking, checking refund status, or updating personal information but also to quickly access online application portals for special services such as traveling with pets, unaccompanied minors, bassinet requests, and wheelchair assistance. Currently, over 120,000 passengers have used the "Digital Human" service on the China Eastern Airlines App.
China Eastern Airlines warmly reminds passengers to enable notifications in the app before departure to receive timely travel updates. Once enabled, the app will push messages at 14 key stages, including ticket issuance, check-in, gate changes, and baggage claim. Additionally, the app has integrated with HarmonyOS's "Live Activity" and iOS's "Live Activities" features, allowing passengers to view real-time flight status directly on their phone screens without opening the app. If there are any changes, the system will proactively send reminders, effectively alleviating travel anxiety.
On the foundation of providing quality travel services, the China Eastern Airlines App continues to enrich its product and benefit offerings, bridging online and offline scenarios for Spring Festival travel to enhance passenger satisfaction. Starting now, China Eastern members can use their miles for full payment or a "miles + cash" mixed payment by showing the payment QR code from the Eastern Miles wallet within the app when shopping at Shanghai First Food, Good Convenience Stores, Kedi Convenience Stores, Liangyou Convenience Stores, and BK24 Bright Convenience Houses, making it easy to purchase Shanghai-style New Year goods.
Online, the "Eastern Miles Mall" within the China Eastern Airlines App has undergone visual and experiential upgrades, with an interface design more aligned with consumer habits, clear categorization, and convenient shopping. To welcome the New Year, select popular items are offered with direct discounts. As the Lunar New Year approaches, the mall will also launch a New Year-themed interface, allowing consumers to shop for New Year goods delivered to their homes amidst a strong festive atmosphere, making travel preparations easier.
Offline, starting February 1st, China Eastern Airlines will distribute New Year fortune bags to passengers at select check-in areas, baggage inquiry counters, and VIP lounges at Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports. This year's fortune bags not only contain red envelopes, Spring Festival couplets, and character "Fu" decorations but also feature new additions like New Year refrigerator magnets and China Eastern文创 MUMUJI stickers, catering to the preferences of younger travelers. Passengers can follow the "China Eastern Airlines" official Xiaohongshu account and participate in interactions for a chance to win identical fortune bags.
Starting February 2nd, China Eastern Airlines will also release limited-edition WeChat red envelope covers via its WeChat service account "China Eastern Airlines" and subscription account "China Eastern Airlines Subscription." By pulling down on the red envelope cover or scanning the QR code on the New Year fortune bags, passengers can jump directly to the "Reunion Season" activity section on the China Eastern Airlines App and mini-program to share ticket purchase benefits with family and friends.
