President Joe Biden is hiking tariffs on a wide range of Chinese imports — including semiconductors, batteries, solar cells, and critical minerals — in an election-year bid to bolster domestic manufacturing in critical industries.

The tariff rate on solar cells, whether assembled into modules or not, will increase to 50% from 25%, the White House said.

Solar stocks surged in morning trading. SunPower rose 63%; Maxeon Solar rose 51%; Sunnova rose 25%; Sunrun rose 9%.
