European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, according to people familiar with the matter, ECB policymakers are growing increasingly impatient with President Christine Lagarde's refusal to clearly state her future plans.
The people said that months of speculation have been building, and Lagarde's vague responses about whether she might leave early have exacerbated frustration. They also said some worry that this turmoil is damaging the ECB's image.
Others pointed out that Lagarde will publish a memoir in January, and her intention to promote the book while in office has also raised concerns. The people said some officials are less bothered by her failure to clarify her future arrangements, believing monetary policy making can continue without disruption.
An ECB spokesperson declined to comment on how colleagues view Lagarde's approach.
