Singapore Shares End Week Higher As Genting Singapore and Jardine Matheson Are Top Gainers

The strong performance of banking stocks and the implementation of the visa-free policy between Singapore and China pushed the Singapore Straits Times Index to close up 0.38% or 11.89 points on Friday (January 26) to 3159.53 points.

The top gainers were Genting Singapore and Jardine Matheson, with the former rising 3.59% to close at S$1.01; the latter rising 1.62% to close at S$41.31.

The total trading volume of the Singapore stock market was 1.52 billion shares, with a total turnover of S$1.21 billion. There were 297 advancing stocks and 279 declining stocks.

Other markets in the Asia-Pacific rose less and fell more. Sydney, Seoul and Shanghai stock markets all rose, with increases ranging from 0.14% to 0.48%; Hong Kong and Tokyo stock markets fell 1.6% and 1.36% respectively, which was a larger decline; Shenzhen and Taiwan stock markets also fell. 0.71% and 0.04%.

In terms of constituent stocks, 11 rose, 11 fell, and eight remained unchanged.

The biggest decliners were Venture Corp and Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust, which fell 1.89% and 1.82% respectively to close at S$13.48 and S$1.08.
