Applied Intuition Seeks Funding at $30 Billion Valuation, Doubling in Value to Join Top Tier of AI Unicorns

Deep News10-14

Applied Intuition, an autonomous driving software company, is seeking to complete a new round of funding at a valuation of at least $30 billion, doubling its valuation from June and placing it among the world's top-tier AI unicorns.

According to a report by tech media outlet The Information on October 13, people familiar with the matter revealed that Applied Intuition has received multiple investment offers, all with valuations of no less than $30 billion, which will likely drive the company to complete a funding round of at least $1 billion in the coming months. This valuation level would place it alongside coding agent Cognition and AI search engine Perplexity, making it one of the top AI startups valued in the tens of billions of dollars.

The core logic behind this funding round lies in performance support. According to investor Andreessen Horowitz's disclosure in July this year, Applied Intuition had already achieved $400 million in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2024, with revenue doubling every year in recent years. Strong fundamentals, combined with the continued heating up of the autonomous driving sector, are attracting investors to rush in at higher premiums.

This valuation leap is also a microcosm of a shift in market sentiment — after AI foundation model companies like OpenAI and Anthropic attracted massive capital attention for several years, application-layer, agent, and vertical software companies driven by AI at their core are increasingly gaining recognition at valuations of $20 billion or even higher.

Focused on the Software Layer, Nine Years in the Making

Applied Intuition was co-founded by former Y Combinator Chief Operating Officer Qasar Younis and former Google Product Manager Peter Ludwig, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, and has been in existence for nine years.

The company's core positioning is as an "infrastructure provider" for autonomous driving software, focusing on providing development, testing, and validation software for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems, as well as vehicle operating systems, rather than manufacturing or operating autonomous vehicles itself.

This strategic choice is now being validated by the market. If this funding round is successfully completed, it will directly double Applied Intuition's valuation from June, confirming the commercial viability of the "asset-light, software-heavy" approach in the autonomous driving field.

Currently, Applied Intuition's customers include Japan's Isuzu (for autonomous heavy truck operations), Volkswagen, and Saudi Arabia's Humain. Last week, the company also announced partnerships with Honda and Nissan, under which it will provide vehicle operating systems and related technologies to both automakers.

According to reports, the acceleration of commercialization at Google's Waymo is reigniting investor enthusiasm for the autonomous driving sector. As Waymo expands its commercial operations across multiple locations in the United States, market confidence in the entire autonomous driving ecosystem has clearly recovered, driving capital to flow more rapidly toward upstream software suppliers.

Multi-Line Expansion: Military Vehicles and AI Agents

Applied Intuition's growth engine extends beyond the passenger vehicle market. According to reports, the company is actively expanding into autonomous military vehicle technology, which will put it in direct competition with defense tech startups Anduril and Saronic.

This summer, the company launched the AI agent tool Dana for internal employees to automate the system development process for physical AI and software-controlled vehicles, further strengthening its position in the AI-native toolchain.

This multi-pronged expansion strategy extends Applied Intuition's potential market boundary from consumer-grade autonomous driving to industrial heavy trucks and defense, providing a broader narrative space for its high valuation.

In terms of capital reserves, Applied Intuition has previously raised a cumulative $1.2 billion from top institutions including Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Lux Capital, and Kleiner Perkins. According to Andreessen Horowitz in July this year, most of the company's previously raised funds remain unused, and its financial condition is quite solid.

Analysts believe that if this new funding round materializes, it will further replenish the company's ammunition to support its simultaneous expansion across multiple frontier directions including automotive, defense, and AI tools.
