Zhuhai Port Achieves Breakthrough with First Bulk Carrier Transport of Fuel Vehicles, 51 Buses Shipped to Saudi Arabia

Deep News09-15

At 4:00 PM on September 12, under the escort and security guarantee of Zhuhai Maritime Affairs, the vessel "Fuda" departed from Zhuhai International Container Terminal carrying 51 fuel buses bound for Saudi Arabia. This milestone marks Zhuhai Port Co.,Ltd.'s first successful breakthrough in using bulk carriers to transport fuel vehicles, not only reducing transportation costs and shortening delivery cycles for enterprises, but also promoting the construction of a "new energy + traditional energy" dual-driven automotive export system at Zhuhai Port, providing new pathways for economic and trade cooperation along the Belt and Road Initiative.

According to industry sources, conventional automotive maritime exports typically employ roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship transportation. However, RoRo ships face disadvantages including insufficient capacity resources and relatively fixed shipping routes, which have gradually become inadequate to meet export demands. In contrast, bulk carriers offer flexible shipping routes and can effectively save 30%-50% in logistics costs for enterprises, gradually emerging as the preferred alternative solution for automotive maritime exports.

To ensure the smooth transportation of buses via bulk carrier, Zhuhai Maritime Affairs Department proactively engaged in service provision, establishing a multi-party coordination mechanism among terminals, cargo owners, and vessels. The department precisely adhered to international regulations such as the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), formulating a "one ship, one policy" service guarantee plan. They strictly inspected key aspects including vessel loading conditions, stability verification, and cargo securing and lashing, while simultaneously opening a "green channel" for administrative approval processes.

A representative from Zhuhai International Container Terminal stated: "The maritime department's comprehensive oversight has resolved cross-border transportation pain points for enterprises. In the future, bulk carrier transportation will expand to new energy vehicle export sectors, supporting diversified breakthroughs in Zhuhai Port's automotive export business."

A relevant official from Zhuhai Maritime Affairs Department noted that adopting bulk carriers for automotive transportation not only breaks through the "barriers" of transportation tools for automotive exports, but also helps Zhuhai Port construct an export landscape featuring "dual energy categories and multiple vessel type options," providing more efficient logistics support for "Made in China" going global.
