According to Woofun AI, global payment giants MasterCard (MA.US) and Visa (V.US) unveiled new stablecoin initiatives on the same day, yet their strategic paths are strikingly different: MasterCard (MA.US) is building a unified account system through acquisition and integration, while Visa (V.US) is continuing its independent product ecosystem partnership model.
The Global Currency Platform (GMP) launched by MasterCard (MA.US) is its first product to go live following the completion of its $1.8 billion acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK in August. The platform provides banks, fintech companies, and enterprises with a unified API that enables simultaneous management and conversion between fiat accounts and stablecoin accounts, supports credit cards linked to stablecoins, and allows funds to be sent to local bank accounts or credit cards through the Mastercard Move feature.
Data compiled by Woofun AI shows that Nuvei, Marqeta (MQ.US), Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech have been confirmed as early clients. Although their specific integration progress remains unclear, the platform is now open for use.
On the same day, Visa (V.US) announced that its Visa-direct stablecoin pre-funded service, which had been in pilot since 2025, was officially put into operation, with Inyo Global becoming the first processor to offer this service.
By contrast, MasterCard (MA.US) has laid out a longer-term vision, stating that by 2027, payments made through the Move feature will cover more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries, and it plans to launch a tokenized deposit service.
This divergence reflects the two major networks' different positioning of stablecoins: Visa (V.US) launched the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP) in July, which has the functions of creating, exchanging, storing, and transferring stablecoins, but it exists as an independent product; MasterCard (MA.US) has integrated most of its functions into a single system and deeply tied them to fiat-related businesses, forming an all-in-one solution.
