Hong Kong-listed gold stocks saw a strong opening session on Monday, with ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK) surging more than 6%, followed by China Gold International advancing over 5%, and Lingbao Gold and Shandong Gold both gaining over 4%. Zhaojin Mining rose nearly 4%, while Zijin Mining added more than 3%.
During early Asian trade, spot gold broke above the $4,410 per ounce mark, climbing 0.79% on the day. According to Deutsche Bank, the fifth "explosive" rally for gold, which began in 2024, is still ongoing. Central bank gold purchases, measured in real U.S. dollar terms, have reached an all-time high, with roughly half of this demand not reported to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Global ETF inflows have also turned positive once again, with Asian buying particularly prominent. The bank has set its year-end gold price target range at $4,700 to $5,100 per ounce, driven primarily by the continuous expansion of U.S. government debt. Current futures positioning remains low, suggesting that the upside potential has not yet been fully priced in.
On the company-specific front, ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK) released its interim results, reporting that in the first half of 2026, the group capitalized on the favorable gold price window by deepening the refined operations of its core overseas mines and accelerating the integration and capacity release of newly acquired projects. This strategy led to simultaneous improvements in operating efficiency, cash generation, and core production capacity. During the reporting period, the group achieved a profit attributable to equity holders of approximately $1.45 billion, a significant year-on-year increase of about 179%. Revenue reached roughly $3.99 billion, up about 100% year-on-year, with gold sales revenue contributing approximately $3.90 billion. The board declared the company's first interim dividend since listing, at HKD 1.50 per share, to share the development results with shareholders.
