OEXN: Inflation Report May Trigger Volatility in Crypto Markets

Deep News12-05 18:40

December 5 – Market attention has recently centered on the release of the Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, a key inflation gauge. OEXN suggests that if the report indicates slowing inflation, it could lower the 10-year Treasury yield, thereby supporting cryptocurrencies—particularly core assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Analysts note that September’s Core PCE is expected to rise 2.9% year-over-year, marking the 55th consecutive month above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. However, volatility indicators suggest short-term market panic remains subdued, reflecting relatively stable investor sentiment toward crypto markets.

FactSet data shows Core PCE may climb to 2.9%, still exceeding the Fed’s target, signaling persistent inflation that could reinforce hawkish policies and delay rate cuts. From a volatility perspective, Bitcoin’s 24-hour implied volatility (BVIV) stands at around 36%, implying a modest 1.88% price swing, indicating limited expectations for sharp short-term fluctuations. OEXN interprets this as market consensus pricing in a likely 25-basis-point Fed rate cut next week despite high inflation figures.

For crypto assets, Bitcoin could break its recent $92,000–$94,000 trading range if low inflation expectations materialize. OEXN notes that a 10-year Treasury yield drop below 4% may further boost Bitcoin while lifting Ethereum (24-hour volatility: 3%), SOL (3.86%), and XRP (4.3%). Low volatility suggests capital may remain in crypto markets with limited near-term sell-offs.

Historically, unexpectedly low Core PCE readings often trigger rapid crypto rebounds, while higher-than-expected data may cause brief pressure without altering long-term uptrends. Investors should monitor interest rate shifts, Treasury yields, and crypto volatility metrics to optimize allocations between core assets and altcoins. OEXN concludes that while inflation data may drive short-term swings, the medium-term bullish thesis for crypto remains intact, with breakout opportunities warranting close attention.
