Iran is moving substantial volumes of oil that were previously blocked from export due to U.S. sanctions, a development that could receive a boost following the interim peace agreement signed with Washington on Wednesday.
Shipping data indicates that a total of 11 tankers departed from Iran's Chabahar port on the Gulf of Oman this week, collectively carrying 20 million barrels of crude oil. The U.S. military had previously prevented these vessels from entering the Indian Ocean as part of its efforts to restrict Tehran's access to petrodollars.
Concurrently, Iran continues its efforts to control which vessels can transit the Strait of Hormuz and the manner of their passage. The Persian Gulf States Authority, established by Iran to regulate traffic, stated in a document published on its website that shipping companies must adhere to its designated routes and that vessels may face transit fees when passing through.
