Musk Declares SpaceX's Ultimate Goal is to Make Humanity a Multiplanetary Species

Elon Musk participated in a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, engaging in a wide-ranging conversation with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink.

Musk stated that SpaceX's ultimate objective is to enable humanity to become a multiplanetary species, thereby allowing consciousness to endure.

Musk said, "SpaceX's goal is to continuously advance rocket technology, enabling the expansion of human existence and consciousness from Earth to the Moon, to Mars, and ultimately to other star systems.

I believe we should always view consciousness, which is life as we know it, as fragile and transient, because, as far as we currently know, we are not aware of life existing anywhere else.

We now have 9,000 satellites in orbit and have never encountered a situation where we needed to maneuver around an alien spacecraft.

So, ultimately, I think we need to assume that life and consciousness are exceedingly rare, and perhaps we are the only ones. If that is the case, then we must do everything in our power to ensure the light of consciousness never goes out.

The image that comes to my mind is: a small candle flame in a vast and profound darkness. It is a fragile candle of consciousness, one that could be extinguished at any moment.

This is precisely why it is necessary for humanity to become a multiplanetary species; so that even if Earth faces a natural or human-made catastrophe, human consciousness can continue.

That is the mission of SpaceX."
