Guizhou Power Grid Sets New Record with Two Consecutive Days of Daily Generation Exceeding 7 Billion kWh

Deep News10:31

Prolonged high temperatures have swept across many southern regions, driving electricity demand to continuously climb. On July 13th and 14th, the daily power generation of the Guizhou power grid reached 7.04 billion kWh and 7.14 billion kWh respectively, surpassing the 7 billion kWh mark for two consecutive days and setting new historical records.

This summer's peak electricity load has exceeded the winter demand surge during cold waves, reflecting both the robust vitality of Guizhou's industrial economy and serving as a vivid example of the region's accelerated efforts to build a new-type power system, leveraging clean energy to support energy mutual assistance across the southern region.

It is noteworthy that in previous years, the peak power generation for the Guizhou grid typically occurred during the winter heating season amid cold waves, with the daily peak reaching 6.96 billion kWh on January 22nd this year. This summer's consecutive record-breaking days highlight dual characteristics of a "seasonal shift" and a "structural transformation."

Both the acceleration of local industrial activity and the mutual support of cross-provincial power supply have jointly driven the overall power generation to new heights. Data shows that the province's economic vitality continues to be unleashed, with internal power supply increasing by 12.3% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the scale of cross-regional power support has steadily expanded, with electricity transmitted to other provinces increasing by approximately 6 million kWh year-on-year.

Facing the summer peak demand in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guizhou has ramped up its power transmission efforts via the major West-to-East Power Transmission Corridor. During the record-high period, the daily power transmission volume from Guizhou to Guangdong surged by nearly 1.4 times compared to the peak level at the beginning of the year, providing ample power resources to support coastal regions during the high-temperature period.

Currently, the installed capacity of new energy sources under Guizhou's unified dispatch has exceeded 40,000 megawatts. During the main flood season, water inflows in the province's major river basins are abundant, with total hydropower storage capacity reaching 10.87 billion kWh. During this record-breaking generation period, the grid's new energy power generation surged to over 2.7 times the peak level seen at the start of the year, while hydropower generation also achieved a significant increase of nearly 90%.

The coordinated contribution from diverse clean energy sources such as hydro, wind, and solar has substantially reduced the pressure on thermal power to meet peak demand. This effectively alleviates the strain on summer coal supply and the high-load operation of thermal power units, achieving a dual win of ensuring supply while maintaining low-carbon operations.

The large-scale integration of green power and high-capacity cross-regional transmission pose greater challenges to the grid's infrastructure capacity and the safe operation of equipment. To strengthen the power supply guarantee for the peak summer period, the Guizhou Power Grid Company has proactively implemented multiple measures.

The completed and operational 500 kV Wuchuan power transmission and transformation project has reinforced the backbone grid in northern Guizhou, enhanced regional power supply margins, and established a new channel for power exchange between Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing. Simultaneously, the company completed comprehensive equipment maintenance and hazard inspections across the grid ahead of schedule.

It is maintaining 24/7 monitoring of key points such as the main West-to-East Power Transmission Corridor and 500 kV hub substations, implementing real-time control over operational risks in grid sections. These efforts ensure stable power supply for residential and industrial use within the province and guarantee the reliable and smooth operation of cross-provincial transmission channels.

According to a relevant official from the Guizhou Power Dispatch Center, the grid company will continue to strengthen safety management and operational control of the large-scale grid, deeply tap into the power generation potential of hydro, wind, and solar clean energy, and optimize the dispatch of the West-to-East Power Transmission. It will make every effort to ensure a reliable power supply during the summer peak, supporting the high-quality economic development of Guizhou with stable and sufficient green electricity, and solidifying the energy security barrier for the southern region.
