China Shenhua Reports Broad-Based H1 2026 Growth; June Coal Output Slips, Shipping Soars

China Shenhua Energy Company Limited released its June 2026 operational update, revealing resilient first-half performance across transportation, power generation and coal-chemical segments, even as monthly coal production moderated.

Operational Overview • Consolidated data (including newly acquired assets from April 2026) show that cumulative metrics to end-June generally strengthened year on year. • Shipping volume was the standout, climbing 36.50 % in June and 10.50 % for the half year, driven by firmer downstream coal demand. • Total power output dispatch gained 5.50 % to 128.08 billion kWh in the first six months, offsetting a 6.80 % retreat in June. • Coal-chemical sales posted double- to triple-digit growth, led by oil products.

Coal Operations • June commercial coal production slipped 1.40 % to 42.70 million tonnes, while cumulative output edged down 3.60 % to 249.90 million tonnes. • Coal sales volume eased 4.90 % in June to 50.50 million tonnes but rose 1.80 % on a year-to-date basis, reaching 300.20 million tonnes.

Transportation Performance • Self-owned railway turnover increased 5.60 % in June to 28.40 billion tonne-kilometres; first-half turnover advanced 6.80 % to 163.20 billion tonne-kilometres. • Huanghua Port loaded 19.00 million tonnes in June (-2.10 % YoY) yet achieved 112.10 million tonnes cumulatively, up 4.20 %. • Tianjin Coal Dock handled 3.20 million tonnes in June (-25.60 % YoY) but still posted a 2.80 % increase year to date. • Seaborne shipping volume surged to 37.80 million tonnes in June (+36.50 %), lifting the half-year tally to 142.00 million tonnes (+10.50 %). Shipment turnover reached 33.30 billion tonne-nautical miles in June (+28.10 %) and 136.50 billion year to date (+8.70 %).

Power Generation • June gross power generation declined 6.60 % to 22.56 billion kWh, reflecting a high base in the prior year. • Nevertheless, cumulative generation grew 5.60 % to 136.64 billion kWh, while total power output dispatch rose 5.50 % to 128.08 billion kWh.

Coal-Chemical Segment • Polyolefin sales climbed 13.30 % in June to 0.19 million tonnes; year-to-date sales added 1.90 % to 1.07 million tonnes. • Oil product sales expanded sharply to 0.10 million tonnes in June (+336.40 %) and reached 0.49 million tonnes for the half (+387.12 %), reflecting last year’s low base linked to plant upgrades. • Methanol sales rose 1.60 % in June to 0.06 million tonnes and 3.40 % year to date to 0.36 million tonnes. • Ethylene glycol sales advanced 8.30 % in June to 0.03 million tonnes, contributing to a 29.80 % increase in the half-year volume to 0.16 million tonnes.

Corporate Actions and Data Adjustments Following the consolidation of assets from controlling shareholder China Energy Investment Corporation Limited in April 2026, all comparative figures for 2025 have been restated to ensure consistency.
