China's Per Capita Disposable Income Rises 5% in 2025

Deep News01-19

Data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics on January 19 revealed that the nation's per capita disposable income reached 43,377 yuan (Renminbi) in 2025, marking a nominal increase of 5.0% from the previous year. After adjusting for inflation, the real growth rate was also 5.0%.

Speaking at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office, National Bureau of Statistics Commissioner Kang Yi stated that China's resident income continued its upward trajectory in 2025, with the income growth rate for rural residents outpacing that of their urban counterparts.

Specifically, the per capita disposable income for urban residents was 56,502 yuan, representing a nominal growth of 4.3% and a real growth of 4.2% compared to the previous year. For rural residents, the per capita disposable income stood at 24,456 yuan, achieving a nominal increase of 5.8% and a real increase of 6.0%.

The nominal and real growth rates for rural residents' income were 1.5 and 1.8 percentage points faster than those for urban residents, respectively. Consequently, the urban-to-rural income ratio decreased from 2.34 in the previous year to 2.31 in 2025, indicating a narrowing of the relative income gap between urban and rural areas.

Chen Wenling, Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee at the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, commented at the "2026 China Economic Situation Analysis Conference" that the growth in resident income in 2025 kept pace with the nation's GDP growth, while the growth rate of per capita disposable income for rural residents exceeded the GDP growth rate. She emphasized that achieving such results was both challenging and significant for China, especially amidst domestic and international pressures.
