French naval personnel have boarded another tanker in the Mediterranean Sea, as Europe intensifies efforts to clamp down on the shadow fleet transporting sanctioned Russian crude oil.
In a post on social media platform X on Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the vessel Deliver was intercepted near Sicily for violating maritime law.
"Following similar British action a few days ago, this new operation against the shadow fleet demonstrates European resolve," Macron wrote. "We will never allow the shadow fleet to circumvent sanctions and finance Russia's war effort."
The United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union have already imposed sanctions on hundreds of tankers, accusing them of facilitating Russian oil exports.
