Chinese-Built 100MW Solar Plant in Azerbaijan Connects to Grid

A large-scale photovoltaic power station project in Azerbaijan, funded by a Chinese enterprise, has officially been connected to the grid.

The Gobustan 100MW solar power plant, invested in and built by HuanTai Energy Co., Ltd., held its grid-connection ceremony in Baku. During the event, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev noted that practical cooperation between Azerbaijan and China has progressed well across various sectors since they established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025.

The renewable energy sector has become a highlight of bilateral cooperation, and he welcomed more Chinese companies to invest in Azerbaijan. The country possesses abundant renewable energy resources with huge development potential. The government is accelerating its energy transition and enhancing its capacity to export green electricity.

Located in the Garadagh district, the Gobustan project includes approximately 200,000 solar panels and a supporting 110kV substation. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate around 200 million kWh of electricity annually, saving roughly 45 million cubic meters of natural gas and reducing carbon emissions by about 97,000 tonnes each year.
