Guangxi is collaborating with ASEAN to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence breakthroughs with cross-border e-commerce, aiming to foster new business opportunities and regional connectivity.
A Thai AI engineer, Thanawin, reported on July 31 that his e-commerce platform effectively resolves communication barriers between Thai durian growers and Chinese consumers caused by language differences. Since its launch over a month ago, the platform has seen rapid growth in registered users. Thanawin participated in the finals of the 2026 ASEAN-focused "AI+Cross-Border E-Commerce" Innovation Application Competition, held in Nanning, where he presented his project and won both the Excellence Award and the ASEAN Cooperation Potential Award.
Thanawin explained that by leveraging AI technology, Thai fruit farmers can communicate smoothly with Chinese buyers and consumers, reducing intermediary and communication costs. The platform has already facilitated multiple successful transactions.
Chen Zishun, founder of Shanghai Homi Technology Co., Ltd., won the championship with his project demonstration. He stated, "We use mature large models to help eligible users test product market potential, generate sales copy, select logistics solutions, and recommend suitable online influencers for product promotion, generating profits quickly." Chen noted that in 2025, his team used AI technology to sell Chinese blankets to the Japanese market, achieving a single-quarter sales revenue exceeding 5 million RMB. He hopes to apply this technology to the ASEAN market through this competition.
The competition, a sub-event of the Guangxi AI-Empowered Industry Super League, focuses on the theme "AI Empowers Cross-Border E-Commerce, Digital Intelligence Integrates ASEAN." It emphasizes the integration of AI applications with cross-border e-commerce, digital trade, and international marketing scenarios. The goal is to facilitate deep connections between AI innovations, real-world e-commerce settings, ASEAN market demands, and industrial capital.
Li Shuo, Deputy Director of the Guangxi Department of Commerce, highlighted that this year's competition strengthens the focus on industrial implementation and results transformation. It features a "reveal and take on challenges" mechanism for real corporate scenarios and includes observation and follow-up by industrial investment funds. The aim is to encourage participating teams to continuously enhance technological innovation, commercial maturity, and market adaptability, enabling high-quality solutions to land in Guangxi and radiate out to the ASEAN market.
Professor Phan Ngoc Anh from the Hanoi Academy in Vietnam, a judge at the competition, believes that the integration of AI with cross-border e-commerce can help companies accurately identify market demands in different countries and reduce cross-cultural communication costs.
