Liaoning Media University to Reconstruct Historic Puyang Academy

Deep News05-14

It has been reported that Liaoning Media University plans to reconstruct the historically significant Puyang Academy within its AI Audio-Visual Industrial Park. This cultural and educational landmark, originally established during the Ming Dynasty, is set to return to Shenyang, blending traditional charm with modern media technology.

Historical records indicate that the Puyang Academy was founded in the 13th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1534). At that time, Pube City was a crucial military stronghold. Inspector Censor Chang Shiping, impressed by the area's beautiful scenery and strategic location, decided to establish an academy to promote culture and education in the frontier region. The name "Puyang" was chosen, meaning "the north bank of the Pu River, where civilization flourishes toward the sun."

Upon its completion, the Puyang Academy transformed the cultural landscape of the Liaodong frontier, which had previously prioritized military affairs over scholarly pursuits. It quickly attracted numerous scholars and students, becoming a central hub for academic lectures and cultural exchange in the region and sowing the seeds of profound humanistic heritage in Liaoning and Shenyang. Unfortunately, the academy was destroyed during the turbulent warfare in the late Ming Dynasty, leaving only historical accounts of its former scholarly glory.

The original site of the Puyang Academy was located on the north bank of the Pube River in Shenbei, which is now the core area of Shenbei University City. The reconstruction project is not merely a simple imitation of ancient architecture but aims to faithfully restore traditional structures such as lecture halls, libraries, and sages' shrines, recreating the古朴style of Ming Dynasty academies.

Simultaneously, leveraging its strengths in media education and the AI digital technology resources of the park, Liaoning Media University is innovatively developing a new model that integrates "traditional academy, modern media, and digital intelligence." The reconstructed Puyang Academy will combine Chinese classical studies, academic exchanges, intangible cultural heritage传承, digital cultural creativity, and educational tourism. It will be incorporated into a 4A-level scenic area plan, becoming a new cultural landmark and an educational base for research and study.
