China Unicom Yantai Branch Successfully Safeguards Communications for Jielong-3 Y12 Rocket Launch

Deep News08-11

The "Jielong-3" Y12 carrier rocket lifted off at 10:38 AM on August 5 aboard the "Dongfang Hangtiangang" launch vessel from waters near Haiyang, Shandong, successfully deploying the Dongfang Huijing constellation's Gaoguangpu 01 and 02 satellites into orbit. This "one rocket, two satellites" mission was a complete success.

As the designated communications support unit for this rocket launch, China Unicom Yantai Branch delivered flawless performance, achieving "zero errors, zero failures, and zero complaints" throughout the entire mission.

The launch at sea presented significant challenges, including expansive signal coverage requirements over ocean areas, numerous command and dispatch points, and concentrated communication demands at the site. Upon receiving the task, China Unicom Yantai Branch immediately activated its highest-level communication assurance mechanism. It coordinated and allocated all necessary resources, assembling a multi-disciplinary support team of 19 technical experts—all party members and youth league members—and deploying 11 specialized support vehicles. The team comprehensively executed assurance work across key areas, including dedicated circuit activation, base station capacity assessment, wireless network optimization, and on-site support execution.

Adhering to the highest standards and strictest requirements, China Unicom Yantai Branch urgently activated 12 dedicated communication circuits for the launch mission. Every circuit was configured with a dual physical route hot-standby mode to completely eliminate the risk of communication disruption. Simultaneously, the team completed capacity expansion for 6 base stations, positioned one emergency communication vehicle at the core launch site, and meticulously fine-tuned the 5G remote over-sea coverage base station signals. This extended the network coverage radius around the launch vessel to over 30 kilometers, achieving seamless, high-quality wireless signal coverage across the launch waters, offshore areas, and onshore locations. Furthermore, robust long-distance communication transmission equipment was deployed and strengthened to ensure smooth switching and stable interconnection between offshore and onshore network signals, fully meeting the diverse information and communication needs of launch command and dispatch, high-definition media live streaming, centralized data transmission, and social media sharing by spectators.

On the day of the rocket launch, China Unicom Yantai Branch strictly enforced a 24-hour duty system. Professional technical personnel were stationed at both the launch site and the core communication hub to monitor the entire network's operational status, signal transmission quality, and network load in real time. They closely tracked all core network parameters and were prepared for emergency response at any moment, diligently safeguarding the stable and efficient operation of the communication network.

On-site measurements showed that the 5G network downlink speed reached over 700 Mbps within the heavily protected area during the launch. On-site communication remained stable, live video streams were smooth, and user experience was excellent. This performance earned high praise from the launch mission task force and media organizations, once again burnishing China Unicom's reputation as the "chief guardian of important events."

China Unicom Yantai Branch will continue to strengthen its high-quality digital infrastructure, enhance its practical capabilities in emergency communication support, and delve deeper into digital application scenarios across various industries, contributing greater strength to building a cyber power, digital China, and high-quality economic and social development.
