Deep News09:30

On October 8, stock markets in Japan and South Korea declined broadly, with both major indices falling.

As of the time of writing, South Korea's KOSPI Index had dropped 0.65% to 6,759.36 points.

Samsung Electronics opened higher but then fluctuated and pulled back, presently down 0.19%.

On the news front, on October 8, Samsung Electronics released its third-quarter earnings guidance, showing profit reaching a new record high, yet overall results fell short of expectations.

Samsung Electronics estimated third-quarter operating profit of 107.40 trillion Korean won, a year-on-year increase of 783%, while analysts had expected 108.67 trillion Korean won. It also projected third-quarter sales of 195 trillion Korean won, up 127% year-on-year, compared with analysts' forecast of 201.9 trillion Korean won.

Continuous AI infrastructure development has kept driving up memory demand, putting pressure on supplies of traditional DRAM, NAND, and HBM. Samsung had previously expected that HBM would account for nearly 30% of total global DRAM wafer capacity next year.

Japan's stock market also fluctuated downward. As of the time of writing, the Nikkei 225 Index had fallen 0.69% to 69,550.42 points.
