America Movil Profits Soar, Plans to Boost Share Buybacks and Acquisitions

Deep News04-23

Shares of Latin American telecommunications giant America Movil SAB de CV rose on April 22, 2026, following positive signals from the company indicating room for additional share repurchases and merger activities after a significant profit surge.

This optimistic outlook stems from the company's recently announced robust financial results. The earnings report revealed that America Movil's recent net profit grew nearly fivefold, with revenue also posting a modest increase, primarily driven by favorable exchange rates that substantially reduced financing costs. The strong cash flow and enhanced profitability provide a solid foundation for the company to implement more aggressive shareholder return policies and strategic expansion.

Previously, the company proposed a dividend of 0.54 Mexican pesos per share and plans to execute a share buyback program valued at 10 billion Mexican pesos. Analysts widely view this move as a demonstration of the company's commitment to rewarding shareholders, interpreting it as a positive signal.

Furthermore, Chief Executive Officer Daniel Hajj stated that the Latin American telecom market is expected to undergo consolidation, and America Movil is prepared. Although a previous bid for the Chilean subsidiary of Spanish telecom firm Telefonica was unsuccessful, the company is now redirecting capital towards reducing debt and actively seeking new acquisition opportunities, such as ongoing negotiations with Brazilian internet service provider Desktop.

Currently, several analysts maintain a "Buy" rating on America Movil, expressing confidence in its growth potential and strategic consolidation capabilities within the Latin American market.
