With the final completion of the Qingyunpu North Road and its ramp project, the Guangzhou Road Tunnel under the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, a project of great public interest, has recently achieved full connectivity, fully activating its core transportation functions. This major east-west traffic artery running through the southern urban area will completely break the barrier posed by the railway, significantly enhancing cross-regional travel efficiency and injecting strong momentum into the optimization of Nanchang's urban traffic layout and the integrated development of the regional economy. The Guangzhou Road Tunnel under the Beijing-Kowloon Railway runs east-west along the existing Guangzhou Road, starting from Yingbin Avenue in the west and extending to Shanghai Road in the east, with a total length of 2.5 kilometers. It is a key project for Nanchang to overcome the bottleneck of urban space segmentation caused by the railway. The core construction of the project includes a 770-meter-long main tunnel and auxiliary roads with a total length of approximately 330 meters featuring two-way four lanes. The main road is designed for a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, establishing an efficient and convenient traffic system. The project adopted a phased advancement and opening model, releasing traffic benefits in batches. On September 30, 2025, the project's main line opened to traffic ahead of schedule, successfully linking key functional areas such as Chaoyang New Town, the Guangzhou Road commercial district, and the Changnan Industrial Park, effectively diverting traffic pressure from traditional main arteries like Jinggangshan Avenue and Hongdu Avenue. Calculations indicate that after the main line opened, the traffic capacity of Guangzhou Road increased threefold, and the commute time from the Changnan area to the old city center was reduced by approximately 15 minutes, marking a significant improvement in cross-regional travel efficiency. Zhang Huahua, a resident living near Jinggangshan Avenue, praised the experience: "Before, taking my child to school or going to the commercial district across the way required a big detour. Now, it's just a few minutes directly there. It's so convenient!" As a critical node for the tunnel's full completion, the auxiliary roads, non-motorized vehicle lanes, and pedestrian walkways were successfully opened on December 5, 2025, further refining the regional traffic network. The newly opened roads avoid ground-level intersections and railway crossings, making travel safer and more efficient for non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians, successfully activating the area's traffic "micro-circulation." Motor vehicles and non-motorized vehicles that previously had to detour via surrounding road networks can now travel directly between two points using the auxiliary roads, effectively alleviating traffic pressure on main arteries like the Hongteng Elevated Road and Nanchang Avenue. With the completion of Qingyunpu North Road and its ramps, the tunnel project has been fully concluded. According to the project leader, the full completion of the project will thoroughly open up the major east-west traffic artery in the southern urban area, further shortening the spatial distance between the southern urban area, Honggutan, and Chaoyang New Town, which is of great significance for promoting regional economic integration and optimizing the urban traffic layout. Chen Jie, General Manager of the 101 Auto Culture Block project, stated: "This tunnel connects not just physical space but also brings a broader development hinterland and smooth flows of people and commerce to the block, injecting strong confidence into business operations." It is reported that the Guangzhou Road Tunnel under the Beijing-Kowloon Railway is an important measure for Nanchang in advancing the construction of the "One Hub, Four Centers" and implementing the urban development strategy of "Expanding East, Extending South, Developing West, Integrating North, and Revitalizing the Center." Currently, Nanchang is using transportation infrastructure construction as a key tool to densify its three-dimensional transportation network. Through a series of key road network projects, the city is expanding its development framework, making citizen travel more convenient and urban development more dynamic. A modern transportation picture characterized by "smooth, safe, comfortable, and beautiful" conditions is gradually unfolding in the Hero City.
