Palantir Technologies Inc. has become part of a consortium developing software for the U.S. Department of Defense's $185 billion "Golden Dome" missile defense system. The project is designed to intercept ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles.
The software is scheduled for testing this summer, with Palantir collaborating alongside defense technology firm Anduril Industries. Other members of the consortium include SpaceX, Aalyria Technologies, AI startup Scale AI, and software company Swoop Technologies.
Major defense contractors Lockheed Martin, RTX, and Northrop Grumman had previously joined the program as primary contractors. The budget for the "Golden Dome" project was recently increased by $10 billion, reaching a total of $185 billion, to support expanded space-based capabilities.
Palantir's government business segment continues to account for a significant portion of its revenue, representing approximately 54% of its total projected sales of $4.5 billion for 2025, while its commercial segment contributes 46%. Analysts suggest that involvement in the "Golden Dome" program could present Palantir with a multi-billion dollar opportunity, as the software could be used for the system's maintenance and operations if it performs as expected.
Following the announcement, Palantir's stock price rose approximately 2.7% in early trading on Wednesday.
