On July 17, PegBio Co-B (02565), Shanghai Tengrui Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Ali Health (00241) formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Hangzhou.

The three parties will leverage their respective strengths in innovative drug R&D, professional commercialization, and digital healthcare services to jointly advance the online accessibility and patient services for the China-developed Class 1 innovative drug Patacon® (generic name: Vipenapeptide Injection). Patacon® has been approved for the treatment of adult type 2 diabetes.

Under the terms of the collaboration, Ali Health will utilize its full-chain service capabilities, including online consultations, prescription circulation, pharmacist reviews, professional distribution, and medication guidance, to expand the online diagnosis, treatment, and patient service scenarios for Patacon®.

This partnership signifies that Patacon® is further integrating with a digital healthcare platform, accelerating the enhancement of online patient access and long-term medication management services, building upon Tengrui Pharmaceutical's efforts in national market access, academic promotion, channel development, and terminal coverage.

Consequently, a clearer professional division of labor has been established: PegBio is responsible for innovative R&D, medical support, product supply, and quality management; Tengrui Pharmaceutical handles nationwide commercial promotion; and Ali Health provides support for digital diagnosis and treatment, prescription services, and patient care.

As the R&D, promotion, and digital healthcare segments gradually connect, Patacon® is accelerating its transition from the post-approval phase towards clinical use, patient reach, and commercial scale-up.

Combining Offline Promotion with Digital Healthcare to Accelerate Key Commercial Pathways

Regulatory approval for an innovative drug is merely the starting point for value realization. Hospital access, physician education, terminal coverage, prescription fulfillment, and sustained patient medication services truly determine the speed at which a product moves from approval to large-scale commercialization.

According to the tripartite division of responsibilities, Tengrui Pharmaceutical will leverage its professional promotion and channel resources to advance the access and coverage of Patacon® in national medical institutions, retail outlets, and primary care markets.

Ali Health will utilize its digital healthcare platform to provide patients with service support spanning online consultations, prescription circulation, pharmacist reviews, professional delivery, and medication guidance, further streamlining the online pathway from diagnosis and treatment to medication.

This indicates that Patacon® is developing a more scalable commercial pathway: offline promotion by a professional commercialization team drives hospital access and terminal coverage, while the online digital healthcare platform expands diagnosis, prescription, and patient service scenarios, with PegBio continuously providing R&D, medical, supply, and quality assurance support.

For patients with type 2 diabetes requiring long-term follow-up and continuous medication, the significance of internet healthcare extends beyond adding a purchasing channel; it lies in enhancing the convenience of follow-up visits, prescription fulfillment, and long-term medication adherence.

The combination of offline professional promotion and online digital services is expected to shorten the distance for Patacon® from regulatory approval to widespread clinical application, while also laying the groundwork for expanding patient coverage, improving medication persistence, and achieving multi-scenario volume growth.

From Effective Glycemic Control to Long-Term Adherence: Addressing Core Challenges in Chronic Disease Management

Competition in the current GLP-1 market is no longer solely about short-term glycemic reduction; it increasingly depends on whether patients can successfully initiate treatment, adhere to long-term medication, and consistently obtain stable comprehensive metabolic benefits.

Patacon®, independently developed by PegBio over more than a decade, is a once-weekly long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist. It has received support from China's national "13th Five-Year Plan" Major New Drug Innovation Project and has been granted multiple domestic and international invention patents.

The product utilizes a fixed therapeutic dose of 0.97 mg, allowing patients to directly start with the treatment dose from the first administration, eliminating the need for a dose titration process and achieving the "first injection at therapeutic dose" principle.

This design can simplify physician prescribing and patient education processes, reducing the management burden associated with repeated dose adjustments during the initial treatment phase. For diabetic patients requiring long-term therapy, simpler regimens with better tolerability are more conducive to establishing consistent and standardized medication habits.

Notably, the value proposition of Patacon® extends beyond short-term glycemic control. Clinical studies show that its monotherapy glycemic control efficacy is sustained up to 52 weeks, with stable reductions and no observed rebound. It also exhibits favorable gastrointestinal tolerability and demonstrates comprehensive benefits in weight, blood pressure, blood lipids, and pancreatic islet function.

This positions Patacon® clearly around long-term diabetes management: simpler initiation, more stable long-term glycemic control, a more favorable tolerability profile, and comprehensive metabolic management.

For chronic disease products, long-term patient adherence directly impacts prescription retention, continuous medication use, and subsequent commercial scale. As the national professional promotion system and digital healthcare services gradually expand, the clinical differentiation of Patacon® is expected to further translate into physician recognition, patient acceptance, and commercial growth.

Minimalist Administration Design Further Expands Outpatient and Digital Healthcare Scenarios

Regarding the administration experience, Patacon® employs a pre-filled, hidden-needle injection pen, with a single injection volume of only 0.3 mL, featuring injection reminders and a non-roll design. The combination of once-weekly dosing, no dose titration, micro-volume injection, and a hidden needle creates a distinct profile in terms of long-term medication convenience.

Diabetes treatment involves long cycles and a large patient population. Whether a product can lower operational barriers, reduce psychological burdens associated with injections, and adapt to inpatient, outpatient, and home-use scenarios often influences its real-world acceptance and long-term adherence.

By simplifying both the treatment regimen and the injection procedure, Patacon® not only facilitates patient education by physicians but also aligns better with internet healthcare, outpatient retail, and long-term home medication scenarios, offering greater potential for the product to move beyond the single inpatient channel and expand patient coverage.

Convergence of Key Capabilities Sets Stage for Patacon's Volume Growth

From a commercialization timeline perspective, Patacon® has completed key milestones such as product approval and national commercial partnership agreements. Tengrui Pharmaceutical is advancing market access, professional promotion, channel development, and terminal coverage, while Ali Health is further supplementing capabilities in online consultations, prescription circulation, pharmacist reviews, professional distribution, and patient services.

The core elements required for Patacon® commercialization are gradually converging: a differentiated product foundation is established, the national professional promotion network is accelerating, access to medical institutions and terminals is progressing, and digital patient entry points are further opening.

Compared to relying solely on the traditional inpatient market, the synergy between the professional commercial network and the digital healthcare platform enables Patacon® to simultaneously cover multiple scenarios, including hospital-based diagnosis and treatment, outpatient pharmacy purchases, and online patient services. This also provides a channel foundation for faster patient reach during the initial post-launch phase.

In the next stage, market focus on Patacon® will shift from "whether the product can gain approval" to hospital coverage, physician prescriptions, sustained patient medication use, and the speed of volume growth driven by online-offline synergy.

For PegBio, this strategic cooperation with Tengrui Pharmaceutical and Ali Health not only further refines the commercial landscape for Patacon® but also sends a clearer signal: as product differentiation, the national promotion network, and digital patient access gradually converge, Patacon® is accelerating from the commercial preparation phase into the real-world market validation phase, with subsequent volume growth poised to begin.
